Etiquette when leaving?

Just wondering what the etiquette is when leaving a game at a casino. Are you supposed to post your big and small before leaving? Is it bad etiquette to leave right before your big blind? I always do this online.

  • I always wait until the Big Blind approaches me before leaving. I don't see why you would owe the table two blinds before leaving...

After all, you do have to post to get in at the beginning... so the blinds to me are the beginning of a new circuit, not the end of one.

I usually say goodbye and wish the rest of the table good luck. I'll also let the dealer know that I am gone if there is any doubt.

    hork.
  • You are free to leave the game at any time, and should do so whenever you feel it is right to do so. Unless there is some urgency to your leaving you should always leave after you finish playing your UTG hand.

It is not at all bad etiquitte to leave just before the big blind. Consider the big and small blind you posted *before* all of those free pre-flop hands you just played as the reason you were entitled to play the free hands.

It's also a pretty bad EV mistake to play the blinds and leave on the button. However, if you feel that you have a good reason to leave a game, do so whenever you feel like it, regardless of position.

  • Yeah, that's what I always do online. Never give up free cards. Hadn't really payed attention before but I just noticed a few of people last night specifically leaving after posting their blinds and was curious whether it was an etiquette thing. Thanks for clearing it up.
  • I've also seen the odd person want to "play their button" before leaving, but there's not really any good rational reason to play your blinds, then button, and leave immediately either.

  • When I leave and am losing, I pick up the chair and throw it across the Casino room, and knock down everyones chip stack in sight.

If this what you meant? :)

This sounds like it might be questionable in terms of etiquitte.

What position were you in for the hand when you left?

  • I always leave after playing my UTG hand because I'm cheap, I guess. I always say bye to everyone at the table and tip the dealer a dollar or more depending on how nice they were with the cards.
