To re buy, or not to re buy, that is the question?

Following some disscusion on my posted topic Tournament Action..., i was inspired to run this poll.
Please note since I could not edit this part of the poll after the fact , could you only repond to one answer instead of up to two as the poll suggests. Thanks you.

  • I suppose it depends on your expectations.

if you are wanting to do as well as possible in the tournament, rebuying or adding on might be a good idea.
if you are looking to have a bit of fun playing a tourny, with the mindset that you're going to have fun, but not necessarily serious about making the money, play tight, and have fun, don't put more money into it.

that being said, if you aren't looking to rebuy, dont' play in a rebuy event.
  • Rebuy: If i went out because of poor judgement/bad call etc... i wont rebuy (punishment)
If i went out because of a suck out/bad beat... i'll rebuy if i dont feel rattled by the beat.

Add-on: If i'm playing well, i add on to give me a little more leverage.

  • Ah, I totally forgot about the add-on. traditionally the group of poker fellows that I normally play with don t even offer add-ons, and most of the time it's a half stack re buy at around blind four where half stack still could do something.
Thank you for your suggestion. I totally agree in padding the stack if allowed. It just seems to me that if you don't, someone will.
  • I rebuy in cash games when im up huge and we've started another round.(i like to have immidiate fun with my winnings) Rebuy in live tournies where i know the players are bad and i went out on a bad beat.

I play alot of hands early on cause i know alot of these players are thinking oh i can always rebuy, so they're more like to chase draws and pay you off.
  • I don't really know what the first option means, but I always play aggressively and play almost every unraised pot in a rebuy period. Always raise in position with or without cards depending on reads, etc. Of course, this is assuming a decent sized field where having to buy-in a couple of times isn't goint to have a large effect on finishing in the top 3 wrt dollar value. For example, when the training room fields were large the $60 + rebuy would have first of 5k and 3rd of over 1k, so investing 200-300 was not out of the question.
  • lol, you know; I was just reading that first opion I had and for some reason yesterday it made sense. now today when you brought it up well.... I'm not to sure but what ever I was trying to convey it must make some sense because I had seven registered votes for it. Pot odds eh.. what was I thinking?
  • Tight and agressive for me. I find the ones that are loose and gambling may catch a break early but become ripe for the pickings after the rebuy period is over.

If I get sucked out on and feel that I still have a chance, I rebuy.
