Negreanu/gambling on TV

Negreanu's on a show I'm shooting today... it's called "MTV Live" which is, it goes without saying, on MTV Canada.  (Rogers 59)

The general topic for the hour is gambling.  I would have suggested that some of you come and be in the audience, but some guy from "Laguna Beach" is on the show so it's packed wiith 16 year old girls who say "Oh my God" and "like" a lot.

Should make for some interesting poker discussion...

The show airs live from 6 to 7pm today, and then will be rebroadcast ad nauseum tonight and tomorrow.

Thanks G, but when I say I was shooting the show, I mean I was literally shooting the show.  My "real" job is a television camera operator.  As for whether or not anyone missed anything, they did 2 segments with Daniel.  They also did a phone interview with Steve Paul Ambrose.  And they were supposed to do a phone interview with Dave Foley, but it didn't happen.

I tried to pay attention to what was being said, but I was too busy finding shots.  Daniel is a great ambassador for Canadian poker, and for poker in general... people seemed to like him, and why not!

I will be working with him today at CGTV... the PNL hosts and Daniel are teaming up for the "Canadian College Poker Championship", a special that will be aired at some point in the future.  It will be nice to meet him... I plan on congratulating him on the all-in call with middle pair vs. Raymer in round one of the Heads-Up Poker Championship.
  • wow dude, it's pretty weird that you HOST a poker show on CGTV, but MTV Live had you behind the camera for this show, i'm sure you wouldve been more than willing to talk, and you would have provided great insight, the "regular" dude compared to the "big-name" pro. I say regular in the broadest sense, your results speak for themselves
  • I don't think the folks at MTV see me as an on-air guy, or as a successful poker player.  They see me as a handheld camera operator, and that's just fine with me.  My worlds collide enough as it is!

    Thanks for the kind words.

Meeting and hanging out with Daniel at the CCPC was a blast.  I'm doing all of the actual commentary in a v/o booth in post, so during that day all I had to actually do was hang out with Tina.  Every now and again the two of us would walk onto the set, read something to prompter, and leave.  It was sweet.

My favourite part: I was introduced to Daniel, and he said: "Oh, you do TV too?"  And then he told me that he knew people who knew me.  I was, I admit, more than a little flattered that he knew of me.  ;)  He is a very likeable guy with a great sense of humour. At one point, I had to ask him to please stop laughing so much while we were shooting because he was making me laugh as well.
  • And then he told me that he knew people who knew me.

Am I the only idiot that immediately thought of:

"I know some people, who know some people, who robbed some people..."
  • So I take it a SNG didn't break out during the commericals? :D
  • Nope... wish one did!

I had a plan to get him to gamble on Sudoku with me, but he didn't have a lot of free time during the day. I wanted it to be Sudoku because I expect he's never wagered on it before. It's possible he's never played it, but I doubt that would stop him from betting on it.

Sounds like a new shows for CGTV!!! High stakes Sudoku! The World Series of Sudoku!!
    And the World Sudoku tour!

Sudoku is my new crack. If I don't get one with my morning coffee, my day isn't the same.
  • Living the sweet life :) I hope you make a final table this year in a NL event Devo, i really wanna see how you play live under the cameras :D

P.S have you ever played with/against heads up versus the other PNL host Johnny? If so, how'd it go?

Thanks!  The vast majority of my final tables have been NL... I love the game.

No I haven't.  We don't really play in the same circles or games... different sites, different limits, and he plays a lot of underground games whereas I do not.  He's a great guy to hang out with though.
  • Too bad I didn't read this earlier. I would've liked to come down. Not to see Daniel though, just to slap that Laguna Beach kid around.

  • I think the original quote has been tampered with...

I was watching a replay of the Heads-Up Poker Championship on CNBC at 8 PM tonight, then around 8:03 PM, it was suddenly replaced by a non-poker program. This has happened to me almost every single time that I was watching the Heads-Up Poker Championship on NBC or CNBC, only to be replaced by other programming. Has this happened to anybody else, or are NBC and Cogeco Cable conspiring to prevent me from improving my heads-up game? :D

I have talked to other people who were able to watch that show completely without being pre-empted. I finally phoned Cogeco Cable to complain, but they claim that they have no control if a regularly scheduled show keeps getting pre-empted.
  • The Heads-Up Poker Championship is on at CNBC right now, but again, my digital cable feed was replaced with a different show. :rage: Can anybody that has the CNBC channel please check if the heads-up championship is on?

  • Sadly, no poker on CNBC with Bell Expressvu
  • Thanks for the reply. Is the show on your CNBC feed called "Asia Market Week"? It's weird that my Cogeco Digital Cable TV listing does show that the Heads-Up Poker Championship is scheduled, but a minute after the show starts, it gets replaced by "CNBC World" programming. :'(
