Poker Chips and Supplies

Folks,

Can anyone point me in the right direction with respect to obtaining quality poker supplies, particularly poker chips in the GTA area?

I have searched and have been unable to find "real" clay chips anywhere. Some advertise clay, but when i get there i get the standard story that they are actually composite, however very high quality. That is not what i am looking for.

Thx

  • the advertising section here is a good start.
  • thx. there actually is some good stuff available.

Is Paulson the Quality name in Clay, or are there other brands to look at?

Also, seem to be limited styles in Clay. Anyone aware of anything else?

    thx

  • There are limited clay chips available. I prefer to go with the standard composite chips as they work just fine and allowed me to hot stamp my chips. I'm not sure if they can order clay chips but the best prices I've found are at www.slot-machines.ca (silver coin amusements). I tend to go to their store and negotiate with them.
  • I saw an add in Factory Direct.ca for clay chips. These are very cheap at $39.00. I figured for that amount of money why not give them and chance.

I picked up a case. These chips are the dice chips but not the cheap plastic ones. Not bad, comes with a dealer button and two decks of cards.

    The chips feel pretty good.
  • thx guys. looking for the real deal. I have a couple of good composite sets, but am looking for the real deal.

found another place in toronto @ Paragonbilliard.com will give that a check.

$39.00 does not get you real clay chips.
  • I think i found the site. It is Apache and they seem to have good stuff. looked at reviews and all good.

Looks like the selection is Paulson, ASM or TR as manufacturers. everthing i read indicates that while Paulson is expensive they are the best. The popular is the James Bond version, Pharaoh's, Classic and there seems to be a new one called the national series. They weigh between 9.7 - 10.0 grams (real casino weight) not the 11.5 grams that many sites indicate.

I ordered some samples from Each set. A set of 500 will run upwards of $500, but the reviews are excellent.

Once received i will post my thoughts for those that are interested.

  • If you are going to buy high end chips the first thing you need to do, which it seems you have done, is buys samples of every chip. Also i would reccomend buying some ceramic samples aswell, they are around the same pirce( a little cheaper actually) but some people swear by them.

Reguarding the clays Paulsons are considered the best but you cannot customize them unless you are ordering an overwhelming number. If you want to customize your chips, which if you are spending that much you might want i would go with the ASM or TR Kings.

If you decide you would like custom chips the ceramics allow you more freedom as they can be customized on the entire surface as apposed to just the smaller inlay area of a clay chip.

There are a few online Canadian retailers that offer both ceramic and clay including one located in Toronto(he posts here) and I think he has an B&M store now but im not positive. I'm not sure the rules about posting links ont he board so I have PM'd you the links.
