Casino Niagara -- cash & chips at the 1/2 NL table

Can someone clarify this for me?
I played at a 1/2 NL table at Niagara recently, and before I sat down the Floor told me the max buy-in was $100, so I bought in for $100 in chips. But there were players who sat down after me who bought-in the $100 in chips, but immediately after sitting down emptied their wallets and combined real cash with their chips, and were allowed to use either interchangeably. What is the point of a max buy-in then?

What is the standard protocol with regards to this at a NL table?

  • I believe what people do is buy-in for 100.00 plus have extra chips off the table so when they go down in chips after a hand lets say 25.00 or whatever then they reach into there pocket and top back up to 100.00. This is so when they have a good hand they can maximize there profit of 100.00 then lets say 25.00 or 50.00.

  • You can't add chips or cash from your pocket to take you over $100. or add to your stack if you already have more than $100. in chips or ash in front of you. Cash and chips are interchangeable but only $20. bills and over play. No 5's or 10's. If you notice anyone violating this bring it to dealers attention.
