Weak tight poker 101

My girlfriend wants to learn how to play poker, but we're heading to vegas in like 5 days.. Anyone know of a quick/simple tip sheet to keep her from getting killed at microlimit live poker?

Something like:

1) Raise AQ+, JJ+ preflop, call 1 bet with any pocket pair,
2) Bet/call the flop if you make top pair+ or flush draw or OESD.. Call/Bet down to the river (1/bet street)..

I know this forum is full of weak tighties, so lets hear some of that rock-advice.

  • Get her to sit on your left and then tell her to iso 3 bet the LAG on her right with any 2... :)
  • Doesn't Sklansky have a simple system in TPFAP that he used to coach a casino owner's daughter 1 day before the WSOP?

    Wasn't this essentially rampaging?

I don't think she'll be able to move all-in preflop in a limit game.
  • Dave Scharf talks about a similar experiment in his poker log.

For further info I guess you could look at his book.
  • Tell her to do the exact opposite of what you are doing.

I forgot, how much did you win at brantford again? Still think that micr0be and I stole your money?
  • In all seriousness, give her Jones to read. Plug any and all preflop leaks first (ie. limping crap in EP, and cold-calling too much). Go from there. Trying to give a 10 min how-to on postflop play is a nightmare because there's many more variables, like pot size, type of opponents, etc. etc. etc. But in general, ya, raise TP and up (assuming there shouldn't be too many bad kicker hands here if following Jones, except for possibly Axs specifically). Bet/call flush and straight draws. Go to war with sets and made hands. Slow down on later streets when scare cards hit (or when you're only holding a TP type hand). Get here to play some .05-.10 online, that should be the same caliber of play as 2-4 in Vegas.
  • On her first dy have her play only these 10 starting hands...

    Pairs 77 thru AA

    &

    AK & AQ

With each day add a few more starting hands like AJ, KQ, and a couple suited connectors like QJ & J-10.

perfect advice...and it's short enough to read on the flight out.

My parents were playing in a charity tourney for my Dad's soccer club, and this is exactly what Chris and I said to them. Dad was out 2nd in the tourney (his trips lost to better trips), and Mom lasted longer than Chris :D

The biggest mistake that they would frequently make is folding when they could have checked. So we told them that if they wanted to fold, always say check, because the dealer would correct them if there was a bet in front of them.
  • Forget Bluffing. Someone will always call.
  • Give her 2 days with the same opponents, then she can bluff them out especially if she's only play 7 hands.......
  • Tell her to only play face cards or better, no low pocker pairs. Call to see the flop and if she doesn't hit then fold. If she hits then her next move is.... your guess is as good as mine.

I said weak-tight, not loose passive.
