I feel sorry for my friend.

My friend in Calgary was playing @ Cash Casino 4-8 Holdem.

He held a 99 and flop came 988, he bet out and got a couple of callers.

Turn was a 7 (this is where someone else hit a straight), and they capped the turn with others calling and folding. The pot was now over $150.

By the river he only had $1 left. The other guy said, "well, I guess i'll put you allin". My friend just flipped his cards, not saying a word showing his full house. Pit boss and dealer made correct call saying by flipping his cards and not saying anything, that it counted as a fold. I believe this is the right call as well, as you can argue that this is a ploy to gage your opponent's reaction to determine whether to call, fold, or raise.

So in the end, he was out $70, when he could have been up $80 or more.

Oh well, I hope he learned his lesson.

Doyle Brunson would have something to say about that...
  • Why is that?
  • I would think that they would have given him the benefit of the doubt, considering he only had $1.00 left and he had the nut boat. Shame that he didn't argue it and that they didn't give him his fair share. I would have felt bad for him if I was the guy that took the money with his lowly straight, just like I do when I hit runner runner flushes.

    stp
  • I feel for your friend, they all knew he called, but got him on a technicality. HARSH :frown:
  • yeah, I may do the same thing in one of our kitchem game when I see him on residence (At U of T) this year. I'll just lay it down, and go OPPS :P
  • Why is that?

Because in Super System, Doyle discusses showing your hole cards in order to illicit a reaction from your opponent..

As for your buddy, unless there was a house rule, showing your live cards in a cash game isn't grounds for a dead hand. Only in tournaments does showing make it dead.

Of course, house rules supercede normal conventions..
  • oic, cool, haven;t read SS. I may get around to buying it :P

Wow. What a bunch of sadistic bastards working at that casino. That is just wrong. IT IS A joke that the guy who won the pot didnt give him the money either.

I agree. But with some Casinos people get an attitude about being in control and crap. The guy who took the money should have sided with your friend, but that of course takes balls and morals.
  • Wow, 1.5 year old hands popping up!! :D
  • Damn, I didn't see the date of the original post. That is old.
