Where to cap the blinds?
Hey all, I have a question for the tournament director's out there. I'm wondering what calculation is done to determine where is best to cap the blinds based on the chips on the table in a tournament situation. Obviously how long you want a heads up, or three player situation, to last must be taken into consideration, but what is the actual calculation to estimate this? When I played in one of Esool's games he mentioned that he had to do some quick math to determine the final blind level. That's the math I'm wondering about. I've been taking the total on the table, divided in half, then counting the amount of BB's each player would have if they each had half the chips. But I don't know how many BB's they SHOULD have for x amount of heads up play. Anyways...thanks for any help.

Yesterdays tourney that I ran ended at 1000-2000 with 42,000 chips in play
Fall tourney ended with 1500-3000 with 43,500 chips in play
Without rebuys it will usually end when the BB is approximately the starting chip amount for a small tourney. So if the starting chips are 1500 then it should end when the BB= 1500. Again add a level or two to be safe.
Hope this helps.
I calculate the total chips in play and cap the blinds when the B.Blind is 5% of the total chips in play.
This is for larger more serious tourneys without a time restriction. It gives the remaining players lots of room to play without it becoming bingo.
My last 2 tourneys finished before it even reached the cap because the blinds were increased gradually.
