playing a middle pair

This is a hand from the currrent 5+R on stars. I would classify this player as a LAG, he was limping in or raising every pot... this is one of those brainfarts for me and i just wasn't with it in this one... please tell me what happen any additional thoughts/analysis appreciated. This is after the rebuy period if that has any bearing on your response.

  • Fold. He's milking you.
  • Everything just got there so fold, and you should probably fold preflop though you're deep enough that this isn't terrible. gavros isn't a donk though, he's got you here.
  • fold, at least hit the ace. Question, 100-200 blinds and you have 40k? howd that happen. Also bizzare raise pre flop, seems like a noob playing a high pocket pair.

first off, it's a rebuy tourney so that's why the chips are deep... villain is not a noob... i put him on AK or AQ, and did fold to the river bet
  • I would have considered raising him preflop with 99. I also think the 'typical' CR on the flop is something that isn't new and is IMO a bit to cute for a hand that is only somewhat strong against the other chip leader at the table.
I would have bet the river, likely the same bet or a somewhat larger bet. Checking is a bit to weak for me.

I have no problem so far. I like the play. Out of position with a small pair but BIG implied odds... take off the flop.

I prefer to bet out. C/R is over rated in big bet poker. Be that as it may...
    *** TURN *** [4s 4d 7h] [5h]

There is 3725 in the pot. I think your bet is about right.

    what is your move here?

Fold. What did he call with on the turn? A heart draw or an ace seem very likely. If you are willing to call 4800 (you think this player is that tricky) then bet out 3000 instead.
  • Dave, do you ever reply to posts in the online section? i would be interested to see some of your thoughts on other hands that i have posted there.
  • Occasionally.

I have been WAY behind on a lot of things because of the Global show. That is now, however, over and I should be able to keep up here a little better.
  • great, I was just curous because i haven't really seen many posts by you in the online section and when posting the hands i wasn't sure whether or not to post them here or there. to save you time the hand i'm most concerned with that has been stuck in my head is a thred called "Agonizing BB Hand." if you ever get any time... thanks Dave, your insight is much appreciated.
  • Bet the flop, check raising builds a huge pot out of position with a relatively weak holding. Fold the river as played.
