Who did the right/wrong move here?

So I’m playing in a $150 freeze out, about 100 people entered, we are down to approximately 34 players.  Blinds are at 200/400.  I’m not going to say which had was mine.

UTG – folds
Next two players fold.
About 5th position (8000 in chips) - raises to 2000
Fold
Fold
Fold
Fold
Puck – calls all-in for less 1200
SB – folds
BB (13000 in chips) – Calls 2000

Flop – Kc, Qs, 6h

BB – bets 1000

5th – All-in  6000

BB – calls

5th shows AK, offsuit
SB shows 10,10
BB shows AJ, offsuit

Turn – 3
River – 10

5th gets a pair of Kings
SB gets trip 10’s
BB wins with a straight to the Ace

All three players are rather happy with the way they played the hand, and wouldn’t have played it any other way.  Can we all be right here?

  • I don't think A-J/BB should have been involved with the hand.

With a raiser of 5 times the blinds and then a call with an all-in he has to think he is a dog here. Either a High Pocket or Ace-King, then with the flop he bets 1000 and the 5th player (who is the original raiser) puts the rest of his chips in he has to realize that the only cards that could be helping him is a 10 or an Ace (and he has to figure the Aces maybe no good) so he only has about 4 outs which are then 10’s (not counting the Aces if he thinks some one has an ace of if some one has 2 pair or trips) or 7 outs (with the Aces  and not knowing that some one has pocket 10’s).

Yeah he won the hand but he got real lucky in a generally losing situation. The other Players A-K and 10’s did all they could do so there is no reason why they should feel bad with how they played both had the best hands when they put their money in the middle.

BTW Please Busdriver don't tell me you are the A-J guy (or better yet be the A-J guy and play that way on Thursday ;) )
  • bb == bad
  • I agree with BBC on this one, hands down. BB had no reason to be in this one at all. If he is congradulating himself for his 'brillant' play, make sure you save him as a buddy. Then find him again.
  • By raising all-in post-flop, the AK player is screaming "get the f___ out!!!".
BB should know that at worst, the other guy should have at least 1 made pair with something like AK, rendering any Ace useless for his weak AJ.
  • Yup I agree with BBC.
With a raise and a call (for all in), BB should have folded.

  • If I was the BB I'd pat myself on the back and ask to play the other 2 heads up....... now seriously I want what ever he was smoking.
  • Meh i might be tempted to dump the AJ preflop but seing the flop is alright... i check-fold that flop with the AJ, getting all in there is BAD, VERY VERY BAD...
  • Thanks for the replies guys, I was the 5th guy.

I forgot to mention this was a live game, so I couldn't make the BB guy my buddy.  I should have waited or him in the parking lot though. :rage:

I knew his 1000 bet was a feeler bet.  So my move was a simple matter of coming over the top, and satisfying his inquiry.  Plus with an all-in player in the hand, he was guaranteed to see my cards anyway.  All these factors tell a resonable player, THIS IS NOT A BLUFF, BACK AWAY FROM THE POT WITH YOUR HANDS UP!  What I didn't count on was how big a fish he was to call, and the 3 free beer tickets that each player got with a buy-in.

As I replayed my last play over and over in my head 100 times on the drive home, I thought, what could I have different.

Plan B: What if I just call the 1000 bet on the flop?  Let him see the turn, then, whatever he does then, check or weak bet, go all-in on him.  (I'm trying to think like a fish, because it's been a long time since I wiggled out of the water and evolved to knuckle dragger now.)  My reasoning is, in some form of fish-logic, calling for half your chip stack is with Ace high and two cards to come is a good move, but maybe calling for half your stack with only one card to come is too risky. :D
  • He's prolly going to keep bluffing on the turn if you just FC the flop bet... the bluff on the turn is prolly gonna be bigger and when you shove over top you're going to get called because the guy is "commited"... i think you are screwed either way.

    The :fish: fish logic is:

I'm drawing on a straight, plus if I get an Ace I can win too, plus I have already put in 3000 chips so I want to defend them, also if I lose I still have lot's of chips so I might as well call the all-in.

You made the right play Busdriver it's just that sometimes wrong play wins.
