Poker Puzzle

Saw this on a blog and thought I'd pass it on...

"You're playing a pot with me heads up in Texas Hold 'Em. The turn card has been dealt and you currently have the best hand. However, no matter what card comes on the river, you can't win. What are the two hands and what is on the board?"

  • Question: does the part at the end "no matter what you can't win" mean it can end in a tie?
    i'm assuming yes
  • My answer in white (so as not to spoil...)

    Board: 3344
    Hero: 27o
    Villain: 56o
  • That's got to be it. I was thinking along the same lines, but abit higher value, but your answer makes more sense. Well done Greg.
  • Sounds like this is solved.

I can't think of an alternative. I'd be intersted if there was.

    Let's see the answer.

I can think of 2 additional answers... any takers??
  • LOL i was thinking of this like 2 weeks ago.

    Answer:

27 off against 56. Flop and turn is 3344. two pair 7 high is winning, but no matter what card is the river 27 cannot win. 2 or 7 makes the other hand's straight, any other card results in a board split.

I've spent a good 5 minutes on this and nothing so far, unless you want to rearrange the order or do something with suited vs offsuit. Do tell!

    Very similar to your answer...

    27 vs 46 w/ 3355 board
    27 vs 45 w/ 3366 board

    I hate problems with non-unique solutions!!! ;)
  • I think I've read the same blog, and saw the other answer that was posted (same hole cards in general, but different board), but I'll let the original poster show it...unless y'all want me to put it up here.
  • How about this :

    22 vs 23 on 44 55 board

If an ace or a 6 comes the 23 still wins.
  • 23 vs 22 on any 2 overpair board high enough to not give the 23 a straight draw. Ie. if a 3 or higher falls it's a chop, and if the case 2 falls the 23 loses.
