Flint Bones' Vegas Trip Day 4

Day 4

I completely forgot about Daylight Savings and with a 3hr time difference already I feel all screwed up. I wake up at 10? Or was it 8 and it was really 9? I have no clue. Anyway, I wake up. Not hungry at all due to the enormous buffet the night before, we head to the Bellagio. The poker room is packed and there are a lot of higher limit games. Shtebs sits at a $10-$20 NL game (or was is $5 - $10 NL?) and Ray is at another limit game. Aaron and I are out. Aaron had just hit the jackpot on a slot for a $100 win with a 15 cent bet. He also didn’t feel like playing the higher limits that the Bellagio offered. A lot of the players seemed to be above us. At Shtebs’ table there was a guy with at least $2000 in front of him and just kept building it up. I play a couple of slots and Aaron and I head to Bally’s to get some food. We find a great Pizzeria that served Pizza Strombolis. We had one each and a couple of MGD (the first booze I paid for). Great stuff. We watched a Texas Hold em dealer game. This game was designed by Skalnsky, as the table said. I didn’t play, I just watched. We see how the house wins a bundle and the players lose. We head back to the Bellagio and find that Shtebs has switched tables. I may be wrong but I think he took a huge beating in the neighbourhood of $900+. I will let him tell you. We both don’t want to play and head back to our room. I crash and Aaron decides to count the yellow pages. Did you know that there are 209 pages of just lawyers in Vegas? And only 105 of “Adult Entertainers”? Oddly enough, according the ads, there seems to be an inordinate number of #1 ranked prostitutes in Vegas. It makes me think that they are not entirely truthful.
Ray and Steve come back around 7:00. Shtebs is down about ..well..a lot. And Ray is up for the first time all trip. We head to dinner at a really nice place in the Aladdin mall. Commordore’s or something. They had some great food. I had a Creole Filet Mignon that was incredible and the potatoes were odd but really good. They also served the best Tom Collins I have ever had. Truly a great place (expensive) to eat.
We head back to our room (we checked out of one already) and packed. We took a cab to the airport, were almost bumped, and got back to Toronto at 6:45am. I never slept on the plane home, so Monday was a write off for me. I didn’t sleep but I was exhausted all day.

Overall the trip was a blast. I cannot wait to go again. There is so much that I missed that I want to see. I missed Fat Elvis (I only remembered after stpboy’s report) and I never got to the Palms, the Flamingo or a few others.

I collected $1 chips from Caesar’s, Binions, Aladdin, and Wynn. I want more. Oddly enough the $1 chips were blue everywhere but the Aladdin, which are white. However, the Aladdin’s $5 chips had a variety of celebrities on them. From Kelly Clarkson and Velvet Revolver to Ricky Martin and Charlie Murphy. Yes, Charlie Murphy.

Another few points of interest.

On my first night at the Aladdin, I busted a guy out. Quick story, I am in the BB with 5 3 off. 5 Limpers. Flop is 5 5 4 rainbow. I check and the Cut off goes all in for $35. I call, all fold. He turns over A4 triumphantly. I meekly turn over my 5 3. Turn is a 6. River is a 7. He gets up and smashes a beer bottle and storms off. One guy turns to me and says, “Don’t feel bad. He had a bad night.” I reply, “I don’t feel bad. He’s a dummy.”

I met a lot of Canadians. It was funny. You mention it to one person at the table and all of a sudden there are 4 or 5 of them there.

The waitresses at the Aladdin were pretty good, but I never really say their faces. I mean some of the best natural bosoms I have had the pleasure too gaze at unabashedly. Caesar’s, well Shtebs is right, she was in her 60s but a great cocktail waitress.

Bras are always optional in Vegas and many opted out.

There was a lot of smoking. A lot.

Crown and Coke DO NOT make good poker player partners.

So..someone said a guy’s trip?

  • Awesome trip report Flint. These damn trip reports have me so pumped...2 weeks till Vegas! As far as the drunken poker beating it sounds like you took, remember, we can play poker in home games, online, the local B&M, whatever, but this is VEGAS, it's 90% about the debauchery and good times with friends, and 10% about how you managed to win/lose x amount of $.
  • I agree. Writing the report made me enjoy the trip so much more. I have no regrets about the drunken play. it was sucha good drunk (no sickness, no hangover, just plain good drunk). I lost a few dollars but I made up for it in enjoyment, free booze and great memories.

    I loved Vegas.

    don't you mean great mammories?

great report guys...and I want to go back....I was supposed to be in Vegas April 9-12th for a work conference but the bastards cancelled it....I'm so pissed!
  • on the last day I sat down at a 5-10 NL table. It was a great table with a few very good players several mediocre players and one player I will dub SuperDonk (or SD) from here on out. Too be fair the donk label may not be accurate since he was catching ridiculous cards and taking down monstrous pots he had no business being in but I like the nickname so it stays.
I initially sat down with $500 won a pot mediocre pot (around $80) with QQ then the next three hands I had pocket 6s, 9s, and Qs again. I only saw the flop with the Qs when I raised it to $80 and had 3 callers. Flop came 245 rainbow so I bet $140 and get reraised another $300 by SD. By now I've seen him play every single hand and I figure he could very well have the straight, a set or a t worst two pair. I lay down my Queens and he shows me pocket deuces for the set (22 from early position to an $80 raise?). Oh well. I'm proud I got away, not a really hard lay down to be honest.
I go card dead for a while and eventually get busted out by him when he calls my all-in bet with 10 2o and hits two pair. I had top pair and and open ended straight draw. I rebuy for $500 and wait for some great flops. After roughly 2 hours of folding or taking down the occasional small pot I crack SD with two pair and double up. I take down another large pot with AQ and am getting some pretty good respect from my raises (except from SD of course).
I see SD double up a good player with K3 (hitting his 3 for low pair) who turned his straight and rivered his flush. He called his all in on the river for $465 with only a pair of 3s??? And he still had somewhere around $5000 in chips. Oh the opportunities there.
My biggest hand was limping in with 78 spades (a Dr. Tyore special is what im hopin for) in late position. Flop comes 69 10 rainbow. What a huge hit!!! I know SD will most likely call me down if he has hit anything so I don't want to lose him too soon. I bet out $60 (pots sized bet), SD calls and a REALLY good player(I guy I'd been vary wary of mixing it up with without holding a monster hand) reraises all-in for another $120. I call and good ole SD calls. Turn is and 8 which I do not like at all so I try to protect my hand now, forget about getting more money from him. I move all-in for another $1360 SD call immediatelly showing J9. Other dude allready all in shows a set of 10s. SD had 2nd pair and no draw on the flop but the damn turn gave him and open ended so he was going nowhere. The river was the dreaded Q and I lose my whole stack. The other guy in the hand comes over and informs me that as soon as I called his all-in he knew he was done for since he never saw me get my money in when I was behind so he was praying for the board to pair to beat my flopped straight. He also says, quite loudly, "If you don't stay and take all of this fucking morons (SD) money you're nuts. You can and will beat him." I politely inform him that I would love to but I'm down to $3 and I blew all my winnings from previous days plus some much more and I'm done for playing poker for the trip. That's poker. I have to admit I had big bucks on the brain and was fairly confident I was gonna rake in an almost $4000 USD pot to really top off the trip. I was figuring SD for two pair or top pair with shitty gutshot straight draw (I've seen him call much quicker with much worse hands then he actually had this time).
It seems that every singly ring game I sat at had at least one incredibly loose donk but this guy was the king of em all. I never saw him fold a hand preflop, regardless of the raises and reraises which were sometimes in the area of 1k+. Two other people that were originally at the table along with him when I sat down mentioned that they only saw him fold preflop once in the 6 hours that they had been there with him and it was because he had to hit the can. He always called every raise and reraise with bottom or mid pair regardless of what the board was showing. He misread his hand (believing he had a straight) called an all-in and rivered a flush to beat the guys flopped Js. If I only had more time to be able to be there when his lucky streak ended and he started hemoraging money.
All-in all I had and incredible time and I hope we can make this a yearly guys weekend with my Pops, brother and Andrew (Flint Bones). I promised my girlfriend we would go together sometime so I won't be able to play much poker then most likely (she probably wouldn't be as understanding as STP's Kate)
I also would love to check out Atlantic City sometime. I believe someone mentioned a road trip on STP's Vegas report???? Sign me up.
