private message issue

anyone else having issues with PM's?

I keep getting notified that I have messages, my number of msgs is increasing, but I cannot see them in the inbox.

Thoughts?

  • Same thing is happening to me. I have to go and delete an old message to be able to view the new message.
  • could your box be full? how many messages roughly do you have in there counting sent items?
  • This was previously reported, and through some testing I think I found the issue (see http://pokerforum.ca/forum/index.php?topic=7881.msg71072#msg71072). However, as of last week (last time I had PM's) the problem was still there.

    What's the capacity supposed to be? I have over 400 since I don't delete old ones.

    I have experimented with the problem a bit. With 15 messages per page, I have found that a new page of PMs doesn't show up until the 2nd or 3rd message (i.e. my newest messages don't show up).

    The forum tells me I have 418 PMs, which means I should have 13 PMs on my last page, but I have 15. So I have 2 more messages than the count is at.

    I think the problem is with the last couple Newsletter PMs. Coincidentally, 2 is the number of Newsletter PMs that I have deleted recently. I deleted them because they never showed up as new messages.

    So I think what is happening is that, when the Newsletters are sent they take up room in your inbox, but don't count as a PM. But if they are deleted, the # of PMs is decreased, which is screwing up the algorithm for the number of pages of PMs that a user has, sometimes making the newest couple messages unviewable.

    York, to fix the problem you can send yourself a PM or two and another page of PMs should appear (containing the couple you missed plus the new ones you send yourself).

    OR... you can reverse the sort order of your PMs so the newest ones are at the top of the 1st page (this makes your oldest couple messages disappear).

    OR... you can just set your preferences so that you get an email each time you receive a PM (the message contains a copy of the PM).

  • sorry guys, I'm not ignoring your concerns...it's just that we're less than 10 days away from the jump over to VBulletin so all of this will be gone anyway. I have hunted for an official patch/ resolution with no luck yet
  • I am all good. I knew about deleting old msgs. I just didn't know that you need to have a certain number for a new page to appear.

    In any case, I deleted all old ones, as I don't really need them.

    Problem temporarily solved :)
