2 pairs as the BB with a possible Straight on the Board

I was playing in a SnG and the following hand occurred. I had a larger stack (starting stack was 4000 and I had about 8000) when the following hand occur. My table image was that I was a tight solid player.

I was on the BB and the blinds were 100-200 (still early in the SnG) with 9 players. Player in seat 7 limps (he had about 5000), seat 8 folds, Button limps (he had about 3600), SB folds.

I look at my hand and have J-9 unsuited, so I check.

(I’m thinking the limps maybe a little weird and that some one may have a monster here, also seat 7 has been tricky winning a few pots with bluffs, but also has showed some good hands, the button I have no real read on but appears to be a good player and has picked up a few hands. I’m thinking if I miss the flop I’ll toss the hand.)

Flop comes J-10-9 all unsuited.

Suggestions?

I bet 600 hopping to take the pot right here, seat 7 raises to 1500 (I think he may be stealing) the Button calls.

    Sorry.....Buy-in was $75.00

    Payout was:

    First was 600.00

    Second was 300.00

    Third was 150.00

    and fourth was entry to the follow week’s game.

    There were 2 tables at this point with about 9 per table, and this was a live game.

    I fold. QK is a very possible limping hand. and I would put the button on it as opposed to the seat 7. seat 7's raise screams protection where as the button screams NUTS and I want action.

    Pre-flop there's 700 in the pot from three limpers and the folded SB.

    You make a nearly pot sized bet which is raises and cold-called by a short stacked button. When it comes back to you, you have a call of 900 to make into a pot of 4300. (1 in 4.8) You have a 1-12 chance to improve to a Boat on the turn.

    If you don't make the call, you have about 7200 and, if you call the larger of the two stacks goes all-in, you'll have about 3000 left and starting to get into tricky territory.

    For me, it's the texture of the board that I'm not liking at all. Assuming you're not already behind (which isn't completely unreasonable) an A K or Q has the potential of making someone a better two pair or a straight, a T could put trips out there, and a 8 or 7 could also make a straight.

    Top and bottom 2 pair, just doesn't seem strong enough on a board like this. I'd likely fold and save my chips for a better spot.

    That said... if you're confident that your read on Seat 7 is a steal, I'd push in to drive him out and get heads up with the button.. I could see the button playing his way on a draw. If you drive player 7 out then you'll either have 4400 if you lose or 11,500 if you're good. His 1,500 bluff into the pot would be a very tempting target in this spot.

    I'd probably still fold, though.

    I made a mistake and just called. I had a feeling that maybe the button could also be making a move and wanted to see want both were going to do on the turn.

    The turn was a brick (I think it was a 2 not suited with the rest of the board).

    I checked (again wanting to see what both players were going to do. Seat 7 bet 1000. Again the button called.

    At this point I asked how much the button had left and he confirmed that he had 1000. I thought about it and figured that the button was going all-in on the next card regardless of what the card was, I also figured that the only way he could call the 1000 bet was if he had a strong hand and I wasn’t willing to put in 2000 to see it all the way down so I folded.

    River was another brick, seat 7 checked, the button goes all-in. (Just as I figured he would) now here is the part I really didn’t understand.

    Seat 7 folds and as he folds and turns his cards showing a Q-10 (confirming my original read.)

    The button then turns his cards over and shows a King-8 (giving me some valuable information about his style of play as well.)

    Seat 7 was angry he later went on tilt and lost the rest of his chips with in 4 hands.
