I enjoyed this, from the Amazon.com review of the first book in the series (Grift Sense):
Sounds like a dangerous read...

I've just published the first of my three-book mystery series titled, RAW DEAL.
It features ex-cop and compulsive gambler Jake Morgan, who is now dealing poker in Las Vegas and solving mysteries.
If you like cards, Vegas, or just a fun read, I hope you'll look it up. It's on amazon and should be out at all book stores, and if it isn't, please ask and they will order.

Thanks, and good flops!

Rick - I will also keep an eye out for your stuff too. Are you a Canadian? It's always cool to know that there are some interesting new writers on the scene...
So, the writer doesn't know anything about casino poker, including the fact that the players don't deal the cards themselves.
I managed to get past that section, though, without banging my head against the wall too many times like I did after I saw 'Shade'. :banghead: The book is kind of like 'Bringing Down the House', but it's fiction, so there are murders and casino owners trying to screw each other over. I'm only halfway through it, so this is just a 'halfway through it' kind of review.
So far, 'Bringing Down the House' is a MUCH better book. But comparing any other blackjack story to the one found in "BDTH' is like comparing a Church pamphlet to the Bible.
No problem about borrowing the book when I'm done with it, Al. I know where to find you.

I picked up a book this weekend called 'Hot Plastic' by Peter Craig, and I'm really enjoying it. The writing is fantastic... clever, and funny at times, without being pretentious. Here's the synopsis:
"Kevin's dad, Jerry, is a crook, and he taught his son every trick in the book. Colette is a runaway who dreams of conning her way into the upper echelons of high society. Just a teenager, she's a tough and talented grifter, and soon becomes Jerry's girlfriend and Kevin's secret crush. After prison divides the three of them for several years, they are reunited for one final scam, a patchwork of old and new techniques that should set them all up for life. The question is, would they rather work together or show each other up?"
I'm halfway through it, and I can't put it down. Hell, the screenwriter of 'Goodfellas' endorses it. There's a lot of credit card theft in it, and it will make you paranoid, so be warned. I've been getting calls recently from people telling me I've "won" things, and although I never let them prattle on long enough to see what kind of personal information they are going to ask me for, one section of this book made me get up out of bed, walk to my computer, and check my accounts to make sure my money was still there.
