What Would You Do

Hey Guys I was Playing in a cash Game on Tuesday Nite 1/2 NL  I am big Blind and delt A :h: K :h: It folds around to the button and he raises 8.00 LB Folds I Call...  Flop Comes A :d:  A :c: K :c: I Check Trying to slow play this hand of beauty.... Button Raises 8.00 I Call... Turn Comes 10 :c: I Bet 12.00 Button Goes ALL IN... I Figured He hit his Straight so I called 420.00 with a Full Boat aces over Kings... He flips his cards to my surprise he hit a freakin ROYAL FLUSH.... So Please tell me would you be able lay down the full boat? just an FYI I started @ this table with 40.00 and was up about 460.00.. So you tell me Yes or NO?

  • can you say  :fish: y;  sounds like a scene from Rounders II. Sounds like you got a very talented dealer or a real bad turn of luck.  Personally, I would never lay this down.  Really unfortunate.
  • It's the old 'hindsight is 20/20' thing but...

What would make him bet out (min.) $420 into a pot of $45?

Would I lay this down, to quote Dave Scharf - "It depends". What was your read of this player? how aggressive has he been playing? etc.

oh ya - insta fold if your name is Mike McDermott :D

It doesnt get much rougher than that - just file it away in your mental hand history folder and keep it for reference.

You should've raised to $32. W/ QJ, he should fold & the hand is over.

Facing a button raise (even in a cash game) w/ AK in the BB, most times AK is good. Don't know why you flat-called, it's not a "monster" & won't hit the flop 2/3 of the time.

Nothing wrong post-flop, the only hand that beats you is a RF, & I've never seen a RF in NLHE in my life. For that reason, it's hard to put him on that, especially since he reraised all-in (you'd think he'd slowplay it, unless he has a great read on you & knew you were very strong).

Did you think about it for longer than 5 seconds?

The only way I could lay this down is if the guy is having MAJOR trouble controlling his excitement.  Take a minute to look at him and try to get a tell on whether he has the royal flush.  I know if I was in his shoes I would have a real hard time hiding it.

Then again... you probably won't run into this exact situation again for say, 500 years.

  • That's why I hate the slowplay, never, EVER give a sucker an even break! Everybodys is always trying to squeeze a few extra bucks out, only to get squeezed themselves. On the other hand, how often you gonna run into a straight flush?
  • Tough break. Really tough break.

I'd be very suspicious of such a big overbet. With only 1 hand that could possibly beat you, I would have one hell of a time laying this one down even if my opponent was doing cartwheels. There are just too many hands other hands that could make such and audacious move.

Bigger question, why did you sit down to a 1/2 game with 40 bucks?

I disagree. I'd like to string along a 1 outter straight to the river, if he hits his flush you get paid off, he beats you with 1 card only.

Usually I don't.. 100.00 min it is a pretty weak game... some place in Ktown a bunch of young kids... I had 40 bucks to blow... if i lost it I lost it
  • I could not live with myself if I folded this and he showed a flush, smaller boat, or god forbid a straight....I never fold this ever..if he's got the two cards in the deck that beat me I can live with that a whole lot easier then if he doesn't and I had let the hand go.

Hey, good for you, :D I just hate being victimized by a suck-out! :rage:
  • I hear ya, but this hand has money maker all over it (no not the professional player, the actual term). If he hits that flush (assuming not the 10clubs) he will have the nut flush and would not be an easy fold for any player, which in turn is your payday.
  • i would never lay that down
