you have a great Canadian poker community right now, so why ruin a good thing. You could always start a second site with more of an international feel if you want to raise revenue, etc.

I know you weren't accusing me of money mongering, no offense taken...just for the record it's not about generating revenue...it really is about seeing how interested the community as a whole is in growing and in which direction and at what pace.

If it were about the $$, I'd have sold all your email addresses to the offer I got last week.  :) True story.

100% that CPF-WSOP attendees will be offered free swag if they'd be willing to wear it. The only downside to marketing a '.ca' name is that in general, if someone sees a '.ca' in print, and it's a few hours before they get to a computer, they'll typically go home and enter '.com' which of course stinks for us. The awareness of .ca is growing better each day though.

With all the effort that goes into running this site, I would hope you make a decent profit from it as it is truly a great site.  There are probably some good ways to increase the sites exposure in Canada if the '.ca' is an issue.  Any thought in teaming up with one of the free poker tours to advertise the site?   They are always looking for prizes to give out to winners of the daily tournaments and that might be a good way to increase the sites exposure with the poker playing community (maybe they would include a link from their site).

Not quite what I meant... but for example, pokerforumcanada.com is available.

nice for a .com. Registered it just now. Thanks :) I'm sending $50 CPF for the heads up on that one.
  • no love for pokerforumdotca.com?

    *sigh*

Sloth, keep it as is. '.ca' is fine for what we're doing here.
  • yeah, it is...but it won't hurt to have pokerforumcanada.com point here as well without changing the name. A lot of visitors find their way here by search "poker forum canada" on google. I'm surprised i didn't check it sooner.

now you got a site to put on the WSOP ballcaps. There are a few members already confirmed for 2006 participation.

I would doubt Sloth is making very much money with this site. Take a look around, there are not a ton of blinking lights and flashing strobes.
There is the odd banner here and there but that is about it..

I am surprised he has not sold out as of yet, I would have. ;)

That, sir, is why you will never do anything worth something. Stick to them lousy 'charity' events. Sick kid. HA!

Are you kidding or are you insinuating that my tourney/s are not really held for charity?

FYI, I was joking about selling out. Anyone that knows me, even just a little would know that I put a large price tag on integrity.
  • vbulletin is def a good choice since the forum is now very big. hit me up by pm if your looking for some poker domains, i have a few nice ones
  • I think alot of people come here because it is a canadian poker site. I think it is your edge. IMHO stay the course.

I hope this was a poorly executed joke. Bill spends a ton of his personal time with these charity events, of which he gets absolutely nothing out of except knowing that he is helping to make a difference for people in bleak situations.

This "sick kid" is the nephew of one of Bill's best friends, and it hits close to home. I was at his last event for this sick kid and happened to play at the same table as the sick kids father. Just to see how happy he was that even 30 guys came out to help raise some money for research was pretty gratifying, especially knowing that the research can't save his own son, but hopefully can help others down the road.

It not too often that people can gamble - and still feel good about it after. Bill, here's hoping there is a nice turnout on Friday night. If anyone is reading this and doesn't know what I'm talking about - see this thread: http://pokerforum.ca/forum/index.php?topic=8667.0
  • Guys, the SMILEY FACE means it's a JOKE. Relax.

:D I could never figure out what this means... :)

Yes it was a joke. I have spoke with Y.P. and it was meant as sarcasm.

Move along, nothing to look at here..

Rather than trying to attract an international clientele, why not focus more on attracting other areas of Canada besides Southern Ontario.
We have Harthgosh in Van City, and a couple of members in Regina, but there's a lot of poker being played across Canada that needs to be tapped into.

Helping to exctend that to the easy myself.. New Brusnwick here.. too bad there are no real good games here I got to go to halifax.. but that it OT

I like the pokerforum.ca name. but what do I know Im the new guy
