Buy-in for 2-5 NL cash game

For people who have played a lot of NL cash games: How much money would you bring to a $2-$5 blind NL cash game, and how much you generally buy-in for?

Is there any good general rule of thumb for NL buy-ins? (Like X times the big blind or something?)

I generally buy in for 20xBB, but I know some people like to buy in for 100xBB, but I fear losing it all in one hand, and know I can turn the 20 to 40 and to 80 and if I lose somehow, i just lose 20, but with 100, i feel there is too much commitment.

for a 2-5 NL game I likely wouldn't sit down with less than 250-300 but I would also of course prefer to sit down with a stack that matches the biggest stack there.

The no-limit game at the Akwesanse Casino is exactly this. I usually sit down with about $300 when I play in this game.(min. buy-in $100, max. $500) of couse, I usually have another $1000 in my pocket incase disaster strikes.:mad: This game varies quite alot depending on whos there. I've seen (and been involved with) some maniac tables... where almost every second or third hand sees a an all-in bet of $500 or more. At a table like this its always a good idea to have the max, waiting for that premium hand to cash in on.:D

It's rare to limp in and see a flop for $5 as usually someone will make it $20 before the flop, so sitting down with $100 puts you pinch since you can't see many flops cheap!

Casinos in LA are using a buy in system for games. For $100 you can play .50-1 blinds or 1-2. for 300 you get 2-4. and 500 for 3-6. Seems they want to run it like a online game, You can only buy in for these amounts, no more, no less. So when buying in for yourself. GO WITH WHAT FEELS GOOD. If you don't feel good about the amount you can't play your best game. Your thinking money not poker.

I get the feeling that $500 isn't enough to play those blinds, and like you mentioned, buying in for the $100 seems rather pointless.

I think I see your point... Bring more than $500 with you... I usually bring atleast a grand, but I buy-in for aroung $300. If I go bust... I decide then if I will re-buy... depending on whos at the table and what the game is like. If I lose to some crazy draw then for sure I'm gonna rebuy and try and get it back... I'm lucky enough to know all the regulars, and I know who to watch out for when I'm in a hand. Of course they know me too... but hey... I'm up over a long enough period to feel that it's a +EV just to sit down at that game!!
