well, it's not really a review i guess...more of a sick-to-my-stomach-reaction
if you saw the movie, you know it was garbage.
if you had read the book before you saw the movie, you know it was the worst adaptation in the history of film!
the book was great. the story was great. the scam was great.
this movie made them look like bumbling idiots, who were lucky to make any money.

if you haven't yet, read the book it was based on: Bringing Down The House.

I actually watched it tonight as well and really enjoyed it! Mind you, I haven't read the book so I cannot make the comparrison, but for a Canadian film, I thouroughly enjoyed it.

This was a bad movie. The acting was beyond horrible. The story was very thin and not engaging.

Read the MIT book instead.

I also noticed one major gambling theory error. This may be a possible spoiler, so I'll put it here in Rot13--- the easiest cyrptosystem in the world to break.

oh the acting...i just threw up in my mouth a little...see how i just stole a line from a movie there? they stole lines a characters from all over....and a lot of it seemed like they were allowed to adlib quite a bit...which works if the actors are good at it. too bad they weren't.

that scene you described scotty, really bugged me too.
one thing about it: the whole movie was based around them learning a team implemented system that lowers the house edge. a lot of work to get good at that, and to use it. and then, for the climax, they just toss it away and rely on good old random luck and a bad betting "strategy".

yep, read the book instead.
