Kitchener-Waterloo area, question to those who play there.

Do you think the Kitchener-Waterloo could use another poker room like Bristol and the like?

  • My Girlfriend says no.

  • I don't think so.  Most months, there are at least 4 larger home tourneys (4-5 tables) and a WestSide, as well as numerous smaller home games.  And a short drive to Guelph opens up a ton more, with there large and growing community.  Personally, my schedule doesn't allow me to keep up (I "only" played 3 nights this week and had to decline 2 other games).  This month is so busy (with KPS, Legends, and Westside) that I'm not even hosting my normal weekend tournament (although I'm planning a Tuesday night event).

And if you can't find enough poker in KW...<speechless>
  • yeah really...every other post is KW/Camebridge/Waterloo or a big tourney within driving distance.
although...i dont really see where drtyore / STP and the like play..i rarely see games posted by these players...what's the deal guys?

They don't host much (although apparantly Shannon used to), they just show up everywhere :)
  • We are like locusts - if you deal the cards we will come.

DrTyore just finished putting on the grudge match which was an excellent tournament.  You can also search the forum for the Park Street Poker Pit and the KWSOP.  Which stp was a part of you need more information before making that kind of statement.

    Look for Grudge Match II

  • yes, because that statement was very hurtful and wrong. Next time i will do extensive research before asking where people play. Sorry about that. (note. SARCASM).
  • I didn't take any offense to the comment at all, to answer you though I usually play at the Bristol st. events, West Sides, Cook Crew and the KPS tournaments. All very well run. I used to run games at my house but their really isn't a need for it now, I also find it easier to just play rather then play and host at the same time. I think the most i had at my house once was 46 players, wow!

    stp
  • I wasn't offended either, though I appreciate the defense by my favorite big-man (for now!)

I "organized" the KWGM, but I find it quite difficult to host anything because of my current living arrangements. I live with my g/f in her sister's (and husband - "Ineedanick" Dave AKA KWGMI CHAMPION) basement. So, firstly, it's not my place, I rent the basement, and we have a 7 month old living in the place.... makes hosting a little inconveniant. However, I do plan on hosting when I can get out on my own!

  • i just thought brent's response was a little...over the top..for my question.
Glad no one was offended...do you guys play in weekly games, rather than just the "major" tourneys we have around here? I play with a bunch of people and we get together every week..i'd like to broaden my playing pool and hopefully learn something...so i was trying to find out where you guys play! :)

  • Much like stpboy, I play at Bristol, KPS, Cook Crew, and the occasional sporatic home game also

    Mark (Quiane)...

You should come out to Kitchener sometime and try out any of the tournaments listed above. They almost always get atleast 24 players and the fields are generally very tough. I know you were at Cook Crew tournament last time, what did you think of that? I don't play in any regular weekly game here, I don't believe there is one with most of the guys I know. Except for Sloths weekly 1/2NL cash game. I used to play in that one a bit but now mostly just play tournaments.

  • Mark, mine is trendwrecker.

Haven't played real money in three weeks...I got a business Visa and cancelled my personal one and am fighting them to let me use it for online gaming. I guess I should have held off on the FedEx cash out of the bankroll to buy a new laptop haha.

    Oh well..
  • STP....i enjoyed cook's crew (although that 6 hitting on the river KILLED me) and i'd like to get in on more of these tournies....a lot of the time tho i can't make it out to 7pm on wednesdays etc.
I will endevour to make it out to these more often, as the field seems solid with lots of good characters!

    Dude

    1. Setup Neteller Account

    2. Deposit $$ straight from bank account

    3. Wn gobs of money (but not from me)

    4. Cash out to Neteller

    5. Cash back to bank account.

    Repeat as necessary

  • hmmm

That sounds wicked. I'll look into it. Last time I tried (a year ago) Netteller only supported TD. I was fine with my old card and liked buying fun stuff every month with my online cash, but I cannot see them letting me use a business Visa.

Hopefully they support RBC now. If not, maybe I'll switch to Party or somewhere that has more options. Even though I love Pokerroom.
  • Neteller takes me with the CIBC... I'msure it's every bank

Any RBC'ers out there use it?

    Mark
  • PC Financial is good for netteller as well..
man, this thread has been hijacked like 3 times now!
  • I think you could be right. I tried express wallet and was confused...trying Netteller now.
  • I've used Neteller with RBC for at least 4 years now...
  • Yeah Netteller does support RBC. I was confused, the issue is that my phone number is registered in my business's name. And they won't verify my info without a phone number listed in my name. Oh man, why can't Visa just let me use MY card for what I want.
  • I had similar issues with Neteller. I had to use my wife's name for the account even though the phone is listed in my name and hers. I don't get how their verification process works with that. So according to Neteller I don't exist, my wife is the poker player.

Just curious why you were asking?

    stp
  • Shannon,

I was asking because I am an entreprenure. I have a business that I used to love and was actually going to expand and open an all ages concert venue that would host shows twice a week or so in downtown kitch. The space is pretty central and I was toying with putting in my personal business plan a card game or two at night with a pro dealer and stuff. I miss having a business I completely enjoy, I know I am not near good enough to live off of poker so I was trying of thinking of ways around rounding. I have been playing poker for only 3 years or so, and 3 times weekly plus daily online for about 6 months. I have had 10 man games at my house, but the work that goes into a multi table seems beyond me at this point haha. I guess I was just asking for basic information more than anything. More of a pipe dream post...

Before going that far look into the legal ramifications of associating a legitimate business with something that would not be legal. I am not sure what the full extent of the law is in regards to it but it could cost you everything if you were busted.
  • Thanks Flint Bones for the warning, I did look at it. It clearly wouldn't be the sole source of income etc..
Just having the option to run a few tournys is more what I was looking at. Like using the space for both the concerts and a card room. The last thing I want is to get busted. Like I said, just a pipe dream/thought.
  • There hasn't been a big crackdown or any arrests in our area that I am aware of. There was a warning sent last year but that is the only thing that I have heard of. I am waiting for something to happen, sooner or later someone is going to get pissed and know someone who can do something about it.

Personally I avoid any type of raked home game or the like. If and it is a HUGE if, I ever got busted it would have affected my previous job. I needed Government clearances because the company I worked for did work with the DND. So any arrest could allow them to revoke my clearances and therefor revoke my job. I am not in that situation now but I never know if I could go back. So in short, I pick my home games selectively.
