Learning by positive and negative reinforcement
Read an interesting article on Card Player the other day (http://www.cardplayer.com/poker_magazine/archives/showarticle.php?a_id=15280), and it got me thinking about the things I do at the table and the leaks that have developed by postive and negative reinforcement.
For the last while, I've been playing tight and the moment I decide to run with a bluff, my opponent suddenly comes alive with a monster hand. The net affect is that it's making me play even tighter and also play hands weakly. I know I've got to brush it off, but the effect of the negative reinforcement is strong.
How about you? What good or bad things have developed in your game thanks to positive or negative reinforcement?

this is largly due to the fact that when i play those big hands (and i am able to accept that i may play them incorectly) i usually make big bets..and while i'm ahead before the flop..if i go all in and get a few callers..they'll typically suck out on me.
I dont want this to be about bad beats..but it's a really interesting point..i have to make myself loosen up at live tables to get things rolling....
weird.

I'm not sure the being stuck stems from negative reinforcement. I had (sometime still have) the same few big losses with many wins. However, I came to the realization at 4:00 am at BCC that I'm really never "stuck" and I should get my ass home. I might be stuck for a session, but that's just some minor variance and not a reason to play tired.
Lots of good stuff in his articles though.

I just wanted to say that this really helped me in a tourney the other day. I was tempted to call an all-in that I knew I was behind in...and said outloud "I should fold here - my hand isn't good enough", and I folded. The all-in bettor showed his cards, and my fold was a good one.
Thanks for the tip
