Fun Tournament - Animated Play

I remember reading this from Magithighs a while back:

"Thanks the the Lucky Lou tournaments I have a couple of new tools in the tool chest.  I have the "ALL-IN" at the top of my lungs.  Yes, I will use this if I need a call.  I plan to knock over my chair as I stand up and yell "ALL-IN".  This pretty much will guarantee I get called."

I am playing in a 40 person tourney this weekend. Normally the serious guy at the table, I am hoping to mix it up this weekend and play the role of the animated guy at the table.  The all-in chair tip seems like a fun move, anyone have any other ideas?

  • Bring an assortment of hats and disguises. Pirate hat, Eye Patch, Sherlock Holmes hat would be a nice touch.

Ask everyone to call you Captain Fantastic and refuse to answer to anything else.

Every time the action is on you, ask how much you can bet.

Learn how to say "All In" in as many languages as possible. In fact just learn terms you will use frequently, raise, fold, check, call etc.

Every time you win a pot, fire fake guns in the air, and do a little Yosemite Sam Dance.

    Those should do it.

I'll let you guess which of these I've actually seen.

    Cheers
  • I have a friend whose poker nickname is "The Squirrel".  I have forgotten why, but there was a reason. One of the traits of squirrels is this: "When frightened, they run around a room in reckless abandon, knocking over anything in their way."

That might be the way to go.
  • I like the going all in and  getting ready to leave move myself.  Go all in, stand up and state that you are absolutely sure someone will call you as you have been playing rags all night and someone must have some type of painted card that warrants a call.  Get your jacket on as quickly as you can and start walking out of the room before it is to the last person to act.  Noone will call, *trust me.

    *Except if they have aces

  • Two words:

    Scotty Nguyen!!

“You call this one and it’s all over, baby”.
  • Great suggestions so far.  Keep them coming!  Also, I am taking suggestions for CREATIVE CARD CAPPERS.

Dinobot:  I am guessing you have obviously seen the "how much" and perhaps the guns in the air.  Maybe I will try and use the "Todos-En" chair tip move, or in the spirit of the Olympics "Tutti-In" and "Desidero l'azione".

Devin:  The squirrel would be chaos.  Hmmm.  There is some potential there.  Especially if the room is tight and there is not much wiggle room between tables and chairs.

stp:  I like the out the door with coat on, all-in, when maybe you don't want action (that is some pretty small fine print there).

JohnnieH:  Do remember what event he has used that line?

1998 World Series of Poker Championship. Scotty Nguyen and Kevin McBride were the only two players left in the game. Scotty Nguyen, holding a nut straight said to his opponent. "If you call, than it's gonna be all over, baby." Kevin McBride had A-Q for a top two pair and called.

Actually, Kevin McBride was playing the full house on the board - Eights full of Nines. Scotty had a nine in his hand so had Nines full of eights (I believe).

My vote on "antics" is for the pistol shooting in the air whenever you take a pot. You could also come up with nicknames for everyone at your table "Bub", "Scout", "Little Lady", "Sweetcheeks" etc.
  • I've always been partial to the KGB impression "Did you like it when I stick it in?"
  • With every action, refer to yourself in the 3rd person.

"Willie calls!"    "Steamboat Willie goes all-in!" etc...

Trust me, after about 5 hands, this will become hilarious.
  • In terms of card cappers, lately I have been bringing a Kinder Suprise Egg with me to our weekly games, and using whatever toy I get in it.  It gets really interesting when you get a puzzle or something like that,  not really ideal for the capping purpose.

I was thinking of going to the dollarstore and finding something unique or just HUGE.

    El agrees.

    (sorry, couldn't resist)
  • Funny but I've never had an All-In trait, or tatic
it's usually just me saying "All-In"..
I usually win 80% of the time, the other 20% I wake up from my night time dream, lol.

"last time I check it was called gambling.." :c:
