July 9 Charity Tall Ship Cruise tournament in Toronto
http://www.greatlakesschooner.com/html_contents_texas.html
Here's something I thought might interest some of the people in and around Toronto. For a charity event and for a considering the tall ship cruise, dinner and open bar it sounds pretty nice and not so bad a deal. A little rich for my blood unfortunately, which is too bad because I wouldn't mind taking my wife out to this one.

I wonder if this could swing the entry into being +EV for some...

This tournament could work out well for Men the Master because if I remember correctly he sometimes drinks quite a few Coronas at tournaments.

Me: Hi, I'm calling for some information about the texas hold'em cruise?
Her: OK...
Me: Um, first of all, is it sold out?
Her: Yes, it is.
Me: OK, I guess that's all the information I need. Thanks.
So, I'm thinking the nervous laughter can only be because she's been getting a lot of calls from *the crazy gamblers* who really really want to play *the texas hold'em*. I decided to call back a couple of minutes later to find out if they were going to run another one in the future.
Me: Hi, I'm the guy who just called about the texas hold'em cruise...
Her: OK...
Me: Since it's sold out, I was wondering if you're going to be having any more of these in the future?
Her: Well, we'll have to see how this one goes first...
Me: Well, I guess it's going pretty well, considering it's sold out.
Her: Oh no, it's not sold out.
Me: It's not? I just called two minutes ago and said "is it sold out?", and you said yes....
Her: No, I thought you asked if it was "still going"!
So, it's not sold out. Not by a long shot, as a matter of fact, which is why I suggested that anyone who wants to play read at least to this point. I'm glad I called back... I was fully prepared to come on here and post that it was completely sold out. She took my name and number, and the guy who's putting it together promptly called me back and gave me some info. Friday, July 9th, $175 per person, includes meal, drinks, and a tournament entry. Winner gets 5K, second gets 1K. I asked if he was only paying the top two spots, even if he gets 150 players, and he said yes. I suggested that it might be a good idea to consider paying the entire final table... say... give 9th (or 10th) place their money back, give 1st 40% of the prize pool, and figure out the other percentages accordingly. He said they'll probably just pay the top two spots.
So, with that in mind, I'm not sure if I'm going to play this or not. Even if I play in a tournament with 149 people who have *never* played texas hold'em before, I still wouldn't think it would be easy to walk into the money if only the top 2 spots pay. I may play it, and think of it more as a little adventure with my g/f. Maybe I'll buy her way into the tournament, just to enjoy 4 or 5 hours of her looking like a deer caught in headlights. I'm not sure, but I think there are plenty of spots left, and there's lots of time to think about it.
