The power of A9

This is the power of A9.  Blinds are going up in 30 sec, which will drop my M to 6.  Neo is a solid but aggressive player (who happens to be from Kitchener). Just wanted to share :)

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to beanie42 [Ah 9h]
Neo__Morph: raises 600 to 1200
UTG raise from him not too scary.  He's raised 3xBB from here with "big" hands (AA, KK, QQ, AK, AQ) but min raises small pairs or medium A's.  I think he has A10, AJ, or 22-88
Jamroom: folds
paliatso: folds
davester5000: folds
mikevike: folds
heck2481: folds
beanie42: calls 1200
Gildwulf: calls 900
loose player, usually folds on flop
GrayParis: folds
*** FLOP *** [9c Qs 3h]
Gildwulf: checks
Neo__Morph: bets 600
beanie42: raises 1200 to 1800
take control, and see if he has small pair (folding), A10/AJ (calling/raising), or maybe 33 (raising)
Gildwulf: folds
Neo__Morph: calls 1200
I now asume he has A10 or AJ
*** TURN *** [9c Qs 3h] [Jh]
Neo__Morph: checks
beanie42: bets 2000
One of 2 cards I think he has, but I have nut flush draw as an out for the semi-bluff
Neo__Morph: raises 27605 to 29605 and is all-in
I am now sure of the AJ.  I have 2 9's and 9 diamonds as outs (a's no good), I'm pretty pot-committed, and my super-high "EIO" helps me make the call
beanie42: calls 4300 and is all-in
*** RIVER *** [9c Qs 3h Jh] [Kh]
a9 RULZ!!!
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Neo__Morph: shows [Jc As] (a pair of Jacks)
beanie42: shows [Ah 9h] (a flush, Ace high)
beanie42 collected 20850 from pot

  • Sounds like a hand you and I would have gotten into...

Only I would have had QQ...

And gone all - in pre-flop

and you and your damned "EIO" woulda called

    And then I woulda cried.

    LOL - sad but true.
  • Last night I had a really horrible start playing $0.50/1.00 NL. First hand, JJ hits trips on flop, end up all-in for $50, and his 23s (bottom 2 pair) hits runner-runner flush. Second hand, rebuy. Third hand. Pocket 9's hit trips, same guy moves all-in, hits the flush on the river again, and I lose another $75. Down $125 in the first 3 hands (about 2 minutes) - ouch. Well, I rebuy again.

I played for a couple hours, and finished up $30 - not great, but pretty good considering that meant a $150 come-back. My 4 big money hands for the comeback were:
    A9o - hit flush
    AA - hit trips
    A9o - top 2 pair
    A9s - full house

I know this hand isn't really this strong, but it keeps pulling through for me. My sample size is still pretty small (8K), but I'm wondering if anyone else has a hand like this - not a "favorite/EIO" hand, but a weak/medium hand that consistently bucks logic and makes money?
  • mm like K10 on Tiger. Never loses.
