Interesting article on folding

This one's for all the rocks in milton.  Tommy Angelo is an amazing pro in vegas and has some great stories on his web site www.tommyangelo.com.  Someone pointed out his web site on 2+2 and it reminded me of all the great stuff he has there.  It's worth a long look and it's very entertaining.  His newest story is on folding http://www.tommyangelo.com/articles/folding.htm .  Very cool stuff and I agree with just about all the advice he gives.

  • I hear that folding is "the most profitable call in poker"
I'm pretty sure mike sexton said that...over..and over...and over....
  • after reading that article...maybe mike sexton isint so wrong....

You would never know it from my "what if" post where I mention this phenomenon! See top posts of 2005.

You'd just lose all that profit by folding when you have pot odds anyway, so it's a moot point.

  • I'll have some pepperoni pizza and a side order of XXXX.
  • The point of that article is lost on me. If he's saying playing tight is good, fine - we get it, but folding alone sure as hell isn't going to win you any money. But maybe that's the point?

    From the article:
And all of a sudden, I can't lose. I love folding.

So if you fold a lot you can't lose much...but you can't win much either.

And FWIW the AT hand illustrated in the article is in no way, shape, or form good poker.

OK, now I have to check out the rest of his site, the guy's probably a comedian or something...but you almost got me...
  • I read a few articles on the site, I have to assume that the author thinks he's funny.
  • I think the point is that the general poker population plays way too many hands. We understand it, but you still go to the casino or play online and see the people who will play every hand way too far (meal ticket). The problem with this article is that this concept is page one of every strategy book out there.
  • If there's a spot on the Milton Rocks, we should sign Tommy up.

Cool can I be the guy on the box?  Nah, my resolve in 2006 is not to tilt and continue my patented move "raise flop and drop".

  • Well maybe I'm just an old guy that relates to Tommy's stuff.  I can relate to almost every article and find much depth to them.  For the folding one this sums it up for me:

"Once by immediately ending my worst situations. Twice by making it correct, in their worlds, for the bluffing types to bluff when I check, and for the folding types to fold when I bet. And all of a sudden, I can't lose. I love folding."

Just because he folds doesn't mean he doesn't play.  And, he still bets and he bets against the players who fold.  But they may not be in the folding club.

Agreed. That was the "ah-ha!" moment of the article for me. I can definately relate that line to some of the games I've played.
  • Despite how comical the article may have been (to some) the only thing I really picked up from it was how stupid the author really is. Checks the flop with trips? Smooth play.
  • Reading the article as if it was an article on poker strategy is not nearly as rewarding as reading it as if it was an article on poker psychology.
