Rake in High Limit games???

I was curious. Does the rake change depending on limits being played, or does it get capped at some point. I know for lower limits its usually a session fee. But what would the rake be for a crazy 1K-2K or higher Limit/NL game? This is for a B&M game not online. Not that im planning on playing these limits any time soon, or ever in that case(hopefully one day :D)

Thanks

  • They don't rake those games. What they'll do instead is collect a time charge (eg $7 per half hour)

Does the time charge get higher and higher as the limits increase or lets say its $7/ half hour for all limits above x?
  • FWIW, when I was in Fallsview last weekend, I asked a dealer what they took for a session fee for the 25-50NL game they were running. He said $8/half hour which is absolute peanuts for the limit's they're playing...
  • In Ontario only the lower limit games are raked, games starting from $10-$20 and up are session fee games. The higher the stakes the higher the session fee, but Scooby makes a very valid point about the very high limit games, the session fee is not very expensive proportionally to the amount of money wagered in any given pot. Take the example of the 25-50NL game ...full table, the total revenue is $160/hr ... I would dare say the total amount is not very proportional to the size of the average pot and remember there should be at least 30-40 hands played per hour.

Of course all you need to reap the benefits of this "bargain rate" on the very high stakes games is the bankroll and the opening buy-in.
  • There's a great article in the December issue of Canadian Poker Player detailing whether you can really beat the rake in a low limit game. It's a good read to examine the difference between rake vs. session fee.
  • Whereas I'm just too lazy...............:)
