MPeg to DVD Conversion Question

Does anyone know of a good program to convert an MPeg file so it will play on most DVD players? my DVD player does not play MPeg files unfortunately. What is the standard format read by most DVD players? Cheers.

    thanks for the help! I was told that I can convert the MPeg with Nero to a CDR and this should play on most DVD players. I will give Santa a try. Cheers.
