KK vs AA...can you stop losing $$??

Don't mean to make this sound like bad beat, because it wasn't...just wondering if I could have pulled out of it at all?

Lately, I've been taken a beating on playing my KK hole cards. The last four times I've been dealt them, I've come up against AA each time, and have lost a good chunk of my buyin, or lost a tournament, because of it. Here's an example from last night's round. My read on the villian is that he was a solid player, didn't play any mediocre hands that I saw, but when he did play, he would raise all the way to the river. When he didn't raise postflop, I figured him on AK or AQ, or maybe a flush draw, but that was not the way he had been playing up to now.

I have been reviewing this quite abit, and other than maybe raising preflop, I don't think I would have done anything differently. I'm just thankful it wasn't more money, as I could have easily capped pre and post flop just as well as on the turn and river.

Like I said, I've had my K's cracked by A's the last four or five times I've been dealt them. Could I have gotten away from this one in particular?

  • Other than raising pre-flop like you said, I think I would've probably done the same especially with your set hit on the turn.

    Tough hand.
  • It would be foolish to not lose as much money as you can on that particular hand.
You REALLY think you can put him on AA or just MUTB...BS...raise and lose to one of the only 2 hands that beat you.

If you track your stuff, crack open your Poker Tracker, look up KK and see the % of times you've won with it.

    It happens.

    P.S. Cap pre-flop.
  • Raise preflop. Don't fold sets. Ever. (well, ok sometimes... but the board has to be VERY scary to do so)
  • Other than raising pre-flop, I would have played this hand the exact same way, and lost the exact same way.

Frustrating, yeah...but I'd rather be dealt pocket KK than rags any day!
  • In limit, if you don't lose the maximum possible with KK vs AA, then you played too weak.

Only in no limit could you have had any % chance of folding KK and in this particular hand no, you need to lose your stack if you get to the turn.
  • In limit, if you don't lose the maximum possible with KK vs AA, then you played too weak.

No way because at some point you have to think he may hold a set/two pair when he keeps raising on a rag flop.
