2006 HIJACKED How to build a bankroll.

So we don't hijack the 2006 goals thread I've started this one. How to build a bankroll. I am no where near an expert but I'll run through some of the things I've done in the last year.

1) I cashed out of every poker site I had money in, everyone..... I then put $50.00 into Bet Hold'em and played with it. My goal was to get it to $1,000.00. I did get it to $350.00 or so then grew tired of the whole thing. I then moved it out of bet hold'em and on to poker room. I opened a new account there and played to release my first deposit bonus. Played mostly .25/.5 NL
Basically played break even poker. Couldn't catch a break so I took a break and cleared the remaining $40 or so strictly playing sng's. Cashed out. Moved my money to eurobet which was still part of the party network and got a rakeback deal going (I also had one at bet hold'em). I hammered the party fishes until party pulled the plug. Moved all my money out of eurobet except for $300.00.

Unfortunately I needed the money to finanace some of my kids activities and personal stuff so I ended up with a $300 roll. Once eurobet moved to the poker room network, deposited the $300 back in and got a $300 bonus (which I could play with immediately). Mostly playing SNG's I have cleared the $300 bonus and have a roll of approximately $1,300.00. I'm sticking to nl ring and sng's on eurobet for now since I'm doing a 40% ITM and 34% ROI for SNG's. I'm looking at getting back to the party and hammering their ring and sng's but waiting for a deposit bonus to come back.

This time there will be no cashing out (except for $1,500 to pay for WSOP event #2). My goal is to have this roll to 10K by the end of the year. Poker room and eurobet are slow to clear at $5 and $10 SNG's but it can be done. Paradise is very hard, my g/f is working off my little $40 bonus there which is giving her 1 point per $5.00 sng with a clearance of $10/100 points. At least there is doesn't expire so she can take her time.

Enough of my post for now, sorry about the length, and let's here from other people.

  • After my trip to Vegas in Sept I stayed away from poker until mid November.

    B&M...
I then took $300 out of may bank account and turned it into $1200 in 3 sessions playing $5-$10 @ Brantford. I then lost $400 in my next 2 sessions and took a week off.
After the week off I made a profit 6 sessions in a row and built it to $3200. I gave my wife $1500 for christmas shopping tp spend on family etc.
I then won my 1st session after x-mas and followed that by 2 horrible sessions. I will be heading back to Brantford Thursday the 12th.

Online...Deposited $100 on Full Contact 3 days ago. It's now at $700. Once I get to $1000 I will pull out $700 and add it to my B&M bankroll.

My goal is to have my bankroll @ $6000 by the end of June. I find that I have alot more success at Brantford than online.
  • My goal is to have my bankroll at 12k by the summer at to start playing 20 40 live at that time.

I have no aspirations about playing big-buy-in tournamnets, just to gradually increase my bankroll and player larger limit games.
  • Can remember which poker I read, but had an interesting way of both paying your self and making sure your bankroll grow so that you can climb the limit ladder. It works something like this.

Start with a bankroll. Double it. Cash out 25%. Repeat.

eg. Start with $100, build to $200, cash out $50. Repeat. (start with the new $150 roll, build to $300, cash out $75, repeat. Start with new $225 roll, build to $550.. etc.)

Now I just have to put this into practice, but I have to admin that I've so far kept the money online to help keep the bankroll growing.
  • I do a similar thing to this, but a bit different. I simply withdraw half my monthly profit at the end of each month. If I lose $100, I do nothing, and won't withdraw again until I make that $100 back first.

Presently in "making it back first" mode.
  • Interesting thread, although I find my tendencies to be fairly far off from the rest (so far). (Actually I just read Zithal's post, sounds like most of his profit is going to BR too so that he can move up the limit ladder). As far as withdrawing, I don't bother making monthly withdrawals. It just seems pointless to me. Personally I generally don't "need" the money, so everything online is just dirty poker money anyways. If I'm pulling it out, it'll generally big a big lump sum (but I might only do it every 3-4 months or so), and only assuming that I leave myself with plenty to play whatever limits I want to play. Leaving myself on a short BR just seems dumb (because I have no intention of ever making my 2nd deposit to neteller). As far as B&M BR, I'm absolutely awful at keeping track of wins/losses (maybe I should add this to my 2006 goals). That being said, I play B&M fairly infrequently, and I know I'm comfortable losing whatever I bring to the table.
I find that I have alot more success at Brantford than online.

And so you should! :) Brantford 5-10 plays like .50-1 online. That being said, I'd caution that it looks like your B&M BR is a little on the short side for $5-$10 (even with games as soft as Brantford). If you're playing B&M more for entertainment/fun then disregard (I'm sort of in this boat). I think I'd feel guilty playing $5-$10 B&M if my online BR wasn't large enough to support it. Probably the only thing holding me back from trying $10-$20 in Brantford (but that day will soon come).
