Question I can't answer anybody else can help...?

Hi Brent, I saw your post with regards to Rogers high speed. I thought I would see if you could help me with a computer question. Do you know how to copy a 7.9 gig DVD using 4.7 gig disks? I'm not sure if I need to use some form of compression software or split the source DVD on to two disks. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Anybosy know the answer?

Thanks

  • You could probably either

A: Try to zip it up, but I doubt that'll save much

B: I think a DVD holds up to 7 Gig of info, maybe try that

C: I know one buddy of mine used his 40 gig iPod as a 2ndary drive, maybe if you know someone with a 60 giger?

  • You're not going to copy a retail movie DVD onto a single layer DVD-R without stripping mucho contento from the source disc.

I'm sure it can be done manually, but I know there are programs that will split a large disc image into two images though I haven't done this myself.

forums.afterdawn.com is a good source for DVD info, including sections for DVD newbies.
  • You need a program that splits the file into chunks and then record onto 2 dvds.

Google video splitters or dvd chunk and you should find many programs, some freeware and some you need to purchase.
  • or a dual layer DVD burner and dual layer DVD's
  • I use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink.

For DVD's single layered, I just use DVD Decrypter.

For Dual Layered (over 4.7 GB) Dvd's, I use DVD shrink.

It allows you to re-author the dvd, strip off menus, subtitles, extra audio options and extra features, as well as it allows you to toggle compression.

I use this to compress dvd collections (World Poker Tour, Television Boxsets) onto fewer dvds.

You can download both DVD decrypter and DVD shrink by searhing google.

PM or email me at tim_wray@hotmail.com if you need any help, Ill try my best to help you out.
