Dave Scharf's 2004 WSOP
I just happened to throw ESPN on yesterday afternoon, 10 seconds later I look at the TV and realize...wtf...that's Dave Scharf.
Seconds later they went into the "Rambling Dave" and showed you 67h hand...was pretty cool.
My kids still looked at me crosseyed when I said that "daddy played poker online with the guy in the "Dollar sign" shirt last month.
But was still cool explaining it to them.

This illustrates, I think, one of the long term problems with poker on television. It's interchangeable. A 2004 WSOP hand (from day three) is about the same as a 2005 WSOP hand is about the same as a WPT hand etc. Poker geeks (like me and everyone else here) might notice the difference. But, the layperson viewer (upon whom the LONG term success of poker on TV depends) can't tell one tournament from another. Hard to build long term interest because, pretty soon, once you see one, you've seen 'em all.
This will be magnified by the fact that as the fields have gotten bigger, less and less "heroes" will reccur. Poker on TV is in decline, I think. At least in the American market it is.
