Good Hotel rates in Vegas?

Going to Vegas in Late January, and I noticed from some trip reports some good hotel rates.   I'll be calling a few for poker rates, but was wondering if there's a better/cheaper way to find a decent room -- Rivera, Circus Circus, Imperial Palace are the lowest I would go.  Let me know.

  • I got my rates for Sahara and the Stratosphere right off their webpage. Then I checked out http://www.travelworm.com and they beat the Stratosphere's web rate by $5 - which made it $20 a night. Strat had decent rooms but you have to add your travel time/cost down the strip. 2 block walk to Sahara and then take the monorail (about 15 min to MGM - less if you are headed to the Mirage in the middle of the strip).

The Sahara page is nice because you can look at a month of dates at a time and see the prices. Even if you don't book there, you can see when the low season prices are in effect, and plan the dates of your trip. Prices in Vegas double or triple everytime there is a big convention in town.

Check out the Excaliber Lou, both times this past year that we have been there we stayed there for $50. per night as long a you are avoiding Saturdays. I hghly recommend it... Jeff..
  • I liked the Excaliber when I strolled through it looking for Jeff...

I like Imperial if only because its in the middle of it all...the rooms are clean, cheap etc. I can't imagine you playing at the IP Lou, but,
for a place to sleep...I'd book directly off their website.
  • Ya cannot ever beat the worm's prices ;)

  • The Orleans... clean rooms, quiet. Off-strip, kind of between the strip and downtown. It's a cheap cab ride to either, so overall you save quite a bit of money.
  • I agree All Aces.. I have stayed there on two occassions and the poker rate is amazing.... $35/night during the week and I think its $49/night on weekends. The shuttle service from The Orleans is unbeatable too.. FREE shuttle from The Orleans to The Gold Coast which is across the street from The Palms and from The Orleans to The Barbary Coast which is located in the middle of the strip right across the street from the Bellagio..

  • The IP would be my recommendation. I just got one of their mailouts and they have the rooms at $49 weekdays and $59 weekends for the months of January and February. If you haven't booked air yet, Southwest out of Buffalo is on sale right now, if you fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday the cost is $59 each way (total cost with taxes was $137.00) you can book through June 9th.

Stardust's rooms are decent. $30 weekdays and $45 fri/sat. Only 3 hr play requirement too (although when we were there they didn't even track our play so i think we would have gotten away with not even playing there)

Also, forget all these discount rooms for playing. Everyone seems to have a fascination with the Imperial Palace. IP poker room is crap. Go play Mirage/Mandalay Bay/Wynn/Bellagio. If you're in Vegas, get some glitz... don't worry, the players are just as bad at those rooms than at IP.
  • Thanks a bunch everyone and your suggestions are much appreciated.  My friend is coming from Markham, so we decided to fly out of Pearson -- booked red-eye flights for $440 cdn, taxes and everything included on air canada -- we get miles too -- woo whoo.  I must be getting old, as the thought of flying on one of discount airlines from Detroit or Buffalo just didn't appeal to me.

We also decided on the Mirage for a room.  Not a great bargain but their poker rate is 109 for weeknights and 149 for weekends.  I really like playing there and love that it's central to the Bellagio/Cesars/ and my favourite the Wynn.   Not sure it's worth the extra 150 per person, but I just couldn't go for the Sahara (roughly $39 a night) or the other rooms.  I might have gone for the IP, but the hotel is booked.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

    Cheers

  • If I was at your level Lou, I wouldn't stay in the shitholes that I do either...

great listing of all the hotel/casinos and flight/hotel packages
  • Last time I was in Vegas, my friends and I stayed at the IP and the rooms were nice and the rates were great. Plus it's right in the center of it all so that was really convenient (us being real lazy and all).
