Good poker face, or cover it up?

Does anyone here wear sunglasses and/or hats when they play poker? I haven't even worn any of them at home games, but if I was playing at a casino or big tournament I would probably wear both. I have also worn sunglasses from time to time for big online tournaments... 8)

  • In home games: I always wear a hat and sometimes sunglasses.

In the casino: I wear a hat sometimes but never sunglasses unless it was a tournament.

For online: I wear sunglasses, a ski mask, and a hat. I don't want to give away ANY tells!!

  • What about headphones? Does anyone ever wear headphones anymore?

Thats it Jay? In some online tournaments I contruct a cardboard wall with a tiny slot for my eyes to look out of every now and then.

    Thank god you said "eyes".

  • Thank god you said "eyes".

There is no emoticon that I know of (correct me here ConfusedONE...) that conveys 'lol' and 'that's disgusting' at the same time.

As for me, I wear a hat. No sunglasses, ever. I brought them with me to Regina, but kept them in my pocket the whole time. Is it weird to actually want your opponents to be able to see your eyes?

The good thing about hats is that they give you options. You can either see the players, and have them see you, or you can't and they won't. I guess sunglasses present options too... on or off... forget I said a word.

I have a friend who was considering playing in one of my home tournaments. He said that he would wear his motorcycle helmet with the black visor down the entire time, and I don't think he was kidding. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to make it out to the game yet.

  • I don't wear hats or shades. I always thought it might be fun to wear some funny poker hat or wraparound shades at home games, but it's just not my style. For online games I like to play with the lights off.

I usually wear sunglasses, especially if I'm going to be playing for a while. Staring at cards for 8 hours makes my eyes sore. The shades REALLY help with that.

  • It depends.

I regularly wear regular glasses, but I have a very weak prescription. I wear glasses for some things, but not others. Poker is sort of the break even point of when I need the glasses... I could play with or without, but generally prefer with.

I also have some prescription mirrored glasses, which I bought for the sole purpose of playing poker. 8) Being mirrored, they are quite dark (although they are handy for bending a laser leveler beam around corners). I also have a red-green deficiency (a very mild form of colour blindness), so sometimes I have difficulty telling poker chip colours apart with the sunglasses on. This is hardly ever a problem in cash games, but it can be troublesome sometimes in tournaments.

As for a hat, I've only recently tried wearing a hat playing poker. I'm not really a regular hat wearer. I like what all_aces was talking about in that you can bow your head and hide behind the rim, but it doesn't have to block your eyes if you don't want it to. However, I don't really have a strong hat or no-hat preference as of yet. I certainly lean towards no-hat for a long low-limit grinding session just because it feels like my head can breathe a bit better.

In terms of the sunglasses/hat issue, I'm not too concerned that I'm giving off tells specifically with my eyes. But I do like the idea that these can disguise where I'm looking at various points in a hand. I guess that's sort of a tell...

  • I'm a hat guy in Real Life (tm) so I usually have one on when I'm playing (usually backwards though). I have perscription sunglasses, but I didn't get super dark ones, and you can still see my eyes, so I don't bother wearing them.

I keep meaning to buy some super reflective sunglasses with my petro points or something, one of these times I'll remember.
  • I've been putting this off for a while... but I think it's time...

Do you guys ever say 'poker face' and think 'poke her face'?

Or interpret 'pokerforum' as 'poke her for him'? That one really kills me, because it implies that he can't do it himself.

Other good ones: corner hutch, sticker collection, pokerstars, partypoker, liquor cabinet, etc etc etc it goes on and on and on.

Am I the only one who thinks that the name of this site rocks?

    'TO GET HER' NOW
  • LOL I just used 'Poke Her' in another chat! You aren't alone!
  • Do you guys ever say 'poker face' and think 'poke her face'?

Hehe. Kind of like the old sign advertising the underground poker club in a bar gag-- "Liquor up front, and poker in the rear."

Yes, we used to do this all the time in school. Proper delievery protocol was the following:

"Poker? I don't even know 'er!"

The absolute best I've ever heard:

    Gladiator.

  • Ahhhh yes... gladiator. A gem.

In addition to this delivery system:
"Poker? I don't even know 'er!"

    is also the timeless:

"You brought 'er.... YOU poke 'er!!!"

  • Keeping on topic of what we wear during a game, Club Regent Casino in Winnipeg won't let you wear sunglasses unless they are perscription. I was at a table and the dealer asked to see the player's glasses as proof! lol

    seemed kind of odd.

so i guess...ski masks wont be allowed either
