Opinions please

Some hands for discussion and opinions....

Hands take place in a 1/2 NL game recently.

Hand #1-

I am BB and dealt AA

3 callers, then MP raises to 7, Button and SB both call, I raise to $30 (too much?)
Button and SB both call, everyone else folds.

Button is EXTREMELY loose, he is an obvious new player and doesn't really know what he is doing.
SB seems tight, haven't really seen him play too many hands.

Flop comes 693

SB bets $17 and is all in.

I don't think I can fold this hand at this point? Is this where I go wrong? I call, Button folds.

SB turns over 66 for the set and I don't improve.

Hand #2

BB again with AQ spades

4 callers, Button does his standard raise to $20, he bet out $20 almost every single time usually on crap.
SB folds, I raise to $40
All fold to button who calls.

Flop 667 , (1 spade) I bet $20 Button calls
Turn 3 of spades

I check, Button immediately throws out $75.....

I absolutely do not put him on a boat, I do not put him on a set. My thinking is he might have a 3, or he might have a 7, he could even have a low pair of something else. I believe I will have him beat IF a spade, a Q, or an A hits.

But I can't call.... I took a long time, but I felt I had to fold.

He ended up turning over 34 of diamonds, just like I had suspected, but he still had me beat.

Opinions please?

  • About the first hand, I think the biggest mistake in the hand was the SB calling your huge reraise fro the BB with 66. After the flop you have to call his bet. First thing I thought when I saw the all-in was a set, but he could easily have something like 10-10 or JJ or whatever. It's only $17 into a big pot, call.

This is really just a bad beat post.

If you honestly fold your Aces here you need to go back to the basics and re-learn the game. I don't mean to be harsh but that's the reality. I think everyone here loses this hand.

    Option #2...

It is a tough fold. But think of your outs. I don't really blame you for folding nor would I find calling it too crazy (that is if you put the villian on a made pair).
  • Hand 1: make a big raise on the flop.

Hand 2: Why the mini-reraise preflop? Either put him to a decision with a big raise or call and look at the flop. Make a bigger bet on the flop, you're pricing him in to call here giving him 5:1, though it's still pretty poor on his part since he has no idea how many out he has. With 200 in the pot you can call the turn getting like 2.66:1 if you're sure most/all your outs are clean but it's pretty marginal. Finally someone makes a decent sized bet and look at what a terrible spot it puts you in.
