poker table materials - rail fabric

I'm in the process of making a top notch poker table. When I say top notch i mean I'm putting endless amounts of hours into this thing. no folding legs, real sturdy legs with foot rests. Pool table felt (which is quite expensive might i add), very wide rail like you see on final tables in the world series or on that kidney bean shaped table on the European Poker Tour. I'm also not sure if i want the rail raised to make for a "Deep" looking table surface liek the world series tables, or have a very short rail to make for a sleek look.

if you guys coudl add comments on preferneces, it woudl be appreciated.

thanks,
Johnny

  • You only have two choices
    Leather or vinyl
actualy one leather, your spending the $$$$ you should go all the way

I have the table your making. I reccomend not making high rails.

    PS
I cost me $500 in leather.
  • I'm not a fan of suede... I prefer leather... and plastic? C'mon, why ruin a table with plastic?

  • Where is this material going? On the rail, or the middle?

For the rail, leahter ALL THE WAY!!! The middlie....a nice felt is great, so the chips don't slide all over the place.

    Got any pics, Johnny?

  • not yet, but we'll all be playing on it soon enough

  • Leather? Why waste your money. The vinyl does the job at a fraction of the cost and will probably last longer as well as look better long term.
  • i think i'm actually leaning topwards suede. the "furry" feeling is soft and nice, and vinyl just.......... i dunno, i just odnt like it.

suede may not hold up long term, but in the design of my poker table i have included a rail that is NOT permanent. down the road some time i may wish to change the material on the rail, so i have left myslef that option.

    we'll see,

and oh yeah, you have any pictures of that table GTA??
