did I play this foolishly?

Okay

so i've played some OM8, but I'm still not 100% sure on what i should have done here... I think it's the right move, and in this case it obviously was!! However, is this an "all-in calling hand"? I mean, I had KK, and AK, and A2, with double suited.. this strikes me as one of the premiere hands in OM8, and wanted some feedback.

  • O8's a postflop game. Preflop hands have small edges against eachother, so while you do have an edge you can get a better one on the flop.

If someone moved all-in in front of you, I'd call. I don't think I'd push the action by moving in myself though.
I mean, I had KK, and AK, and A2

Don't think of your O8 hands as individual holdem hands. You have to start thinking of them as a complete unit for 4 cards that work together. Seperating them out can trap you into thinking something like 789T or 7788 is good.
  • While edges in O8 may be small, in general breaking up the hand into the relavenet working pieces is valuable.

I mean this hand had a high pair, additional high card value, was double suited, had an A2 on the low (no backup though) ... A hand that really has a great shot at scooping a pot or surviving on just the high.

Generally speaking i would be comfortable getting my chips in the middle against most players with that hand, if i had to do so pre-flop.

Which was my general way of thinking...

I know that something like A2 is of more value in OM8 than something like A-J or A-10 generally... I figured I had 2 or so diverse hands (AK / A2 / suited aces), and also one monster hand (KK) that can club someone down.  I don't know that you can ask for much more than that, except perhaps AA23 double suited... which to my understanding is the best hand in OM8.

Basically, I'm wondering if in the grand scheme of OM8, is this one of the top % of hands?

P.S. WTF was A-7-2-4 thinking? I meann, at least the other guy had a suited ace.... i think the best thing was the fact that I won this hand on my pocket K's....

True... very few hands seem to be re-raising hands in OM8, unless you're very short stacked, and I obviously wasn't... however, if you look at the betting.... I raise the pot from UTG +1 (it's PL), get a re-raise and then one caller... .I"m thinking I'd rather have just one, so I push them both all in... only about 1/2 of my stack was in jeopardy at worst... and I had to figure they were negating one another to some degree, they're not likely to move without an ace each, and even if an ace hits, I have top kicker... means less in OM8, but hell, if there's a savant out there who knows the odds on this, please feel free to figure it out.

  • As far as I can tell the only hand you're behind is aces with a low card. Against a good player I think you need to be worried about AA2x for example, but in a low limit game you're probably ahead way more than you're behind so this looks fine. Some hot/cold odds for interests sake. You're a substabtial favourite:

Some HU odds. Against just a low hand you're in good shape:
