Favorite Memory of 2005?

I just wanted to discuss some of the moments/events from '05 that made news here @ PF.ca

Please feel free to add your own thoughts, I'd love to hear them.

My Favorites

1. 'All Aces' Devin making a Final Table at the WSOP Limit Tournament.

What an awesome night this was for the KWers, as we played a KWSOP Satellite at stpboys house, Devin was battling Phil Helmuth and Annie Duke in Vegas. Congrats again Devin, we're all very proud of you.

2. The Rise (and Fall) of the KWSOP

With almost 100 players, this could have been one of the greatest Poker events in Ontario, with some of the best players in Ontario. Alas, it wasn't to be, as the tournament was shut down, due to legal reasons. A valiant attempt guys, but maybe next time.

3. The Race for Bristol Player of the Year
What a freaking finish! It came down to the last tournament, but Tyson pulled out the winner!! Way to go!!!

......and the whole year of great tournaments from Zthal! Thanks again for a great year!!

  • 1) Winning my first HOME GAME - I had been holding a home game monthly, but NEVER placed in the money. When it finally happened, I was thrilled...and thankful for the books I read and for the info on this forum.

    2) Participate in my first BIG Tournament - it was WitchDoctors's Charity Game back in October, run by the good folks from West Side Poker. I didn't fair very well at all, but it was a new experience and a great introduction into a new world tournament poker.

    3) Getting Chinguacousy Hill Poker League off the ground - this is still a work in process, but I'm very happy with the way things are turning out so far. A great group of people who just enjoy playing poker and needed a place to meet regularily, and I'm having a blast organizing it.

Those are probably the best poker memories of 2005. And the next year will surely be much better for me.
  • 1) 2nd place finish in my first live tournament (Sam Chow Invitational) a field of 52. It was also my first time in a live poker room!
    2) 1st place finish at my work poker tournament.
    3) 1st place at a bachelor party tournament.
    4) Phil Hellmuth winning the National Heads-Up Poker Championship.
  • 1. Winning the Great Canadian Poker Tournament at the Docks. What a great feeling knowing you out lasted 500 or so other players to go on to win.

    2. Having a 5 final table run at various poker tourney's (LIVE) including Crown Casino, West Side Poker Club, Training Room and River Room.

    3. Jennifer Tilly winning a poker tourney..... damn she's hot......
  • Only one...the most amazing thing that has ever happened in my poker career. Playing at the super loose 4 8 1/2 kil game at The Office in Mississauga I look down at black kings UTG. I rasie into an 11 handed field and everyone folds, including the blinds.

    Never to be repeated.

    Amazing.
  • 1. Finding this Forum.

    2. Finding Bristol Street games.

    3. Winning a Bristol Street game.
  • 1. Getting a royal flush at a poker table in Vegas.

    2. Winning the very first weekly game in the Chingcacousy Hill Poker League :D
  • here are just a few of my favourite moments of playing poker in 2005:

    1. the people i've met, and the community here on the Forum. I've seen poker played better at most of these tournaments in KW than i see when i watch the WPT on TV.

    2. finding out how much i love playing $1/$2 NL cash games. When i started playing them i was way over my head, but playing them have shown me how to be a patient player. I also liek being able to play both tournaments AND cash games now.

    3. winning a bristol back in february i believe. i had won a few small home tournaments before that one, and i'm talking about having 6 people over for a $20 buy-in game. but when i won at robs place, it just felt so good.

    4. MAKING MORE MONEY THAN I'VE LOST!!!!!!!!!

    5. playing poker 5 times per week for 3 months and not feeling bad about it at all.

  • 1. Going to Vegas and checking out the WSOP and seeing what big time tournament poker is like and obviously meeting some of the poker personalities I see on TV.

    2. Winning a free trip to Vegas through a local, free poker tour in the GTA. (related to point number 1)

    3. Winning back to back family events

    4. Meeting another pokerforum member (PSI) for the first time in Niagara and winning a $130 bucks in 4 hrs playing 1-2 NL.

Good luck to all pokerforum.ca members in 2006...may the flop, turn and river be with you!
  • I'd say final tabling in pacifics 30+3 in the summer, 806 entrants, I ended up busting out in 3rd for a nice pay day. I do however regret a few plays from that final table, because I was playing to move up the pay structure as opoosed to playing to win. Something I havent done since and NEVER will do again, allowing myself to be pushed around from chip leaders, and laying down pushable hands.

Also my current run from June till present, the hottest streak I've been on and I've made alot of money from multitabling pokerrooms 2/4, 3/6,5/10.
  • I would have to say my favorite memory of 2005 was being a "Team Canuck Poker Party Donkey" for a day at the Harvest Classic in Regina. I had never played for a purse more than 8K before that day. I had come from behind and won in a satellite the day before, giving me entry into the 1K freezeout event for $110. I outlasted Devin, Bob, and Dave, finally getting knocked out on the last hand of level 7. I loved the rush of playing with some of the best players in the country. It was cool to meet Wader and Devin, and to get to know Bob and Dave a little better. I hope to do something like that again real soon.
  • One of my best moments revolved more around the poker community rather then the game itself. Playing at Rob's house, just after my 6 month stint of not playing at all, it was my birthday week. Thirty two players jammed into his house singing me happy birthday, it was touching to say the least albeit a little awkward for me hahahaha.

Another, touching yet somewhat awkward moment, was being greeted with a standing Ovation at Lucky Lou's and at Trevor (Beanie42) house upon arrival. It's nice to be missed.

Poker related moments. Being picked by several to win The Bristol St. Tournament of Champions and coming out on top, what a great tournament! Also winning the Wild Card tournament to even get in, making it back-to-back Bristols. I was on a nice rush.

Worst moment was definately the fall of the KWSOP and fiascos that ensued because of it, what an unfortunate set of circumstances.

All in all though, it's been a great year to have the support and kindness of the KW poker community. I'd have a hard time leaving this great city. To all of those out there, you know who you are, thank you very much (feeling a tad sentimental).
