How to maximize profits when you flop the nutz?

So, I'm just wondering how other people would have played this hand. Obviously I would like to have made more on it, but I didn't want to scare anyone off either. How do other people play hands like this? Is there a good way to induce betting?? My thinking in this case was that someone behind me would have a diamond, and at least take a stab at it...

  • As it turns out, with this board you couldn't have made much more no matter what, but a smallish bet on the flop would have likely netted you a call from the 2's (peel one to try for a set) and from the 6 with the good kicker
Once the heart came tho, they both fold to any bet, if they assumed you were betting on your heart draw.
  • Bet the river unless the others are habitual bluffers. No one has anything so you're not making much here.
  • I definately think you could have gotten more $$ in on the flop, as well I think you basically have to bet the river.
  • You have to make some kind of bet on the river, even if its a small one. There is a good chance that someone has a flush (not this time but you didn't know that) even if it's just a little one and they might pay off a smallish bet.
I think you would have gotten some action though with a small flop raise allthough I didn't mind the call.
Even if you bet the river and they muck then you don't show your cards and they are none the wiser to your quads and slowplay.
No way you were going to take down a monster anyway.
  • an all in bet on the turn (or a pot sized bet) may have been viewed as an attempt to steal the pot and you may have gotten a call on the turn by a perceptive player. A solid player would think that if you had a locked hand, why would you bet so much as you would want to milk the pot. You had to hope someone had a high heart and would think you were just trying to steal.

  • The problem with quads is that the rest of the field usually has completely missed the board, so it's hard to get much out of them. Unless they have a pocket pair, and fill up, you're not going to win much on this hand.

Gotta bet something on the river. Read your opponents... if a small bet is the best way to go, then do it. If a large bet or all-in can represent a steal attempt, then do it. Checking and waiting for someone else to bet will not work most of the time because it's still a small pot so people are less likely to attempt to steal it.
  • Apart from someone hitting a flush or a full house, I doubt if you could have made more.
I would have bet big on the river though, I don;t like showing my hand for free.
If some one calls all the better, but if both fold muck it.

My philosophy..if you want to see my hand you gotta pay.

  • I hit quad Aces last nigth on Party. And was able to extract about 10 bets out of one guy.

First off, I raised from under the gun to 3.5x and recieved 2 callers. I like that with AA.

The flop came AKK - which was fantastic - hoping some one else held a King and no one had KK.

    Turn - Ace.

This made my decision really tough. I could check - hoping he would bet out - but I had watched the player and knew he wasnt going to bet into the board on a bluff or with a K. So I bet my standard 3.5x. 2 Callers.

    Turn - J.

I bet out 3.5 x. One fold. One call.

    River - 4 or 5 (a blank)

I flip over pocket Aces and take a little cash.

What others have said is dead on the money. It can be tough to make money with quad - especially if the rest of the board is sh!t.

However, if you know the table well enough there are ways to capatilize.

    1. Loose Passive players who love to call but never raise. Some players hate to fold because they dont want to be bluffed. So keep your value bets coming - they ll keep calling just to see your cards.

    2. Remember how you have played your past pots. I had been playing with this fella for about 2 hours by this time. And I used this betting strategy every time I entered pots in the first few positions. So a 3.5x the standard raise was normal - no warning signs. Then the flop. Well i raised preflop with just a smooth call. So, true to from I fired back out again 3.5x. Now, the river and turn are where things generally shake up. So I just added two value bets to be sure he would call down.

I know this wont always work. But if you know how your opponent plays and how they think you play - you can definately make money on quads.

Where are you playing that you get extra turn cards? Sounds like a crazy game! No wonder you got so many callers, someone was probably shooting for a runner runner runner runner flush. ;) Seasons greetings.
  • Hmmm - that does seem like a good deal.

That must have been the reason I thought the river card was Blank. Apparently it didnt exist at all - thanks.

Better to make my error here than on the table though.

    :)
