How should I play this?

Stars 10+1R 25K tourney.

Second blind level (100/200) after rebuy period is over. I'm at 5K (no hands at all to double up, generally pretty tight table). Big stack of table on my right with 12K.

Hero in BB, Villain (big stack) in SB.

6-10o. 2 limpers, villain complete, I check

Flop 6-8-2 rainbow. villain check, I bet out 800 (just to see where I'm at). limpers fold, villain check-min-raise to 1600.

Villain took a few gambles in the rebuy period, but as many players has pointed out, the solid players are the ones who gambles in rebuy period.

What would you to?
1. call - if turn misses check behind or fold to a raise
2. fold (slow playing trips/2 pair)
3. push
4. other

  • i'd probably call and reevaluate the turn....
    im guessing youre behind though
  • You have 10 6 o. Without a strong read that middle pair 10 kicker is best, you fold. He check raised you knowing that there was 3 people to act behind him. He has you beat or you are playing your whole tournament with 10 6 o. Due to pot size the rest of this money is going in at some point in this hand. He is going to continue with his bluff on the turn, or continue betting the best hand. Move in if you really think 10 6 o is the best hand here. I don't think I even lead out at this flop considering you were in the bb. That's just me.
  • I'd just fold, 800 is a very strong lookiing bet and yet he checkraised you. You're almost always bejind and you're not getting the odds to try to improve even if you have 5 outs. I don't mind betting the flop but I'd only bet 500, test the waters and get out if you get any heat.
  • Fold. I would say that you need to make a smaller tester bet (ie 450-500). You basically have 2nd pair with a terrible kicker. Just think of the hands that it is possible to check raise with in the villains spot, check raise with a set, 2 pairs, top pair with weak/good kicker, or maybe he's slow playing an overpair to the board. So you have basically got 5 outs or less. This should make it pretty easy to fold... I could see how the initial bet of 800 made you want to call, but you have to fold more often than not you are behind. He could just be trying to bully you around, but is it worth risking your tourney on 10-6o? I think not. GL wes.

You are in fine shape. Lots of room to maneuver and no need to panic.

I would probably check and fold the flop. My somewhat arbitrary rule is "bet second pair against two opponents but not three." Here, you have three in an unraised pot. They could have a wide variety of hands and if any of them have anything then you are beat. I prefer check and fold.

    Having said that...

You are offered 800 into a pot of 3200. You are getting 4-1 on your call. It is likely that you are behind and have 5 outs. I fold. If you miss the turn then you will face another bet and you will have to call. The real odds call for a fold. Implied odds? Maybe... But, hitting your ten will give him a traight if he has 9-7 which is possible and that somewhat diminsihes your implied odds.
    2. fold (slow playing trips/2 pair)

He doesn't need to have a hand this big to c/r you. Top pair woudl be lots. Second pair big kicker. Heck, it he's got 9-7 then he will win close to 50% against you weak holding.
