Ideal Denominations in a 1000 piece Chip set

Hey guys...wanted your imput on the following. I am getting a 1000 piece set of poker chips customized for my home games and was wondering how you would split up the denominations/colors. We usually have between 7-10 people per night and for the most parts run single table freezeouts. What are your thoughts???

  • 1,000 chips is over kill for 10 players, but going that high will allow you to create mulplie initial buy-ins. I'm going to assuming the following intial chip splits

    1,000 : 15x(5), 13x(25), 6x(100)
    2,500: 12x(25), 12x(100), 2x(500)
    10,000: 12x(25), 12x(100), 7x(500), 5x(1,000)

    For 10 players:

    150 Red(5)
    150 Green(25)
    200 Black(100)
100 Purple (500) - or use Blue if Purple not available
100 Yellow (1,000) - or use White if Yellow not available.

This takes into account have some spare chips for colour ups. Note the total here is 700 chips, so we can scale the amounts for additional players.

To handle up to 16 players (two tables of 8), a split of the following will get you all you need.

    250 Red(5)
    250 Green(25)
    250 Black(100)
    150 Purple(500)
    100 Yellow(1,000)

Alternately, if you don't mind dropping the idea of (5) chips and starting with 25-25 or 25-50 blinds levels, then the following split will let you handle up to...

25 players with a 12/12/2 starting split of 2,500 chips,
25 players with a 12/12/7/5 split of 10,000 chips (with little room for colour ups at 25 players), or
36 players with a 8/8/3 starting split of 2,500 chips

    300 Green(25)
    350 Black(100)
    200 Purple(500)
    150 Yellow(1,000)

Don't forget to account for rebuys and/or color ups.

  • have 4000 and then lots of colours and your covered.......
  • Personally, I'm not all that fond of chips with preprinted denominations on them. Just my preference mind you, but having blank chips you can use them for ALL the levels you want to set up and play with.
  • 30 chips per player is more then enough for a freezeout. Which puts you at 300 chips. A 500 chip set will be more then enough for one table as well as two.

    1000 piece sets totally rock!

    I like having big stacks.
Big stacks makes it go so much faster if everyone isn't fumbling for change.

    For tournements.
I like to have 20 of each low and medium denomination per player.

    So ...

    Tournements:

    200 Green
    150+ Black
    50 Purple

Cash games you want even bigger stacks if you can swing it.
It's nice to have 50-100 chips per player.

For cash games if you play 1/2 NL

    300 White
    300 Red

If you play .25/.25 or .25/.50 NL

    200 Blue (.25)
    300 White
    100 Red
