Second Small Stakes NL HE Hand

In order to take advantage of the advice and the expertise of the forum, I will post the hand in segments, soliciting advice feedback in chunks before revealing my moves and results.
$.25 - $.50 No Limit Hold em - $25 max buy in
Been at the table for about 25 minutes - table seems to be typical low limit - fairly loose and passive except for one hyper aggressive loose player

Hero is in the cutoff with 10 :d: 10 :c:

Folds to MP ($26) who limps, Hero ($28) raises to $2, button folds, SB ($44) re-raises to $4, BB folds and MP player smooth calls:
Reads - MP player has seemed to be a standard lag, who is solid after the flop, SB is hyper aggro - yet to see him limp or call a raise - 2 hands to showdown - 74 suited where he made a straight on the flop and busted a player who made trip 5's, and one where he made the nut flush with Ax suited
So - does hero re-raise or smooth call?

I smooth called - not sure if it was the right play - but my thought process was:
MP player had decent over cards - I thought AJ or AQ - he may have called is I pushed and I really didn't want to race
SB could have anything - but my gut felt one of two things - high suited connectors or low pocket pair

    Flop:
    8 :h:j :s:3 :c:

SB - leads out for $3, MP player folds, hero?
  • Reraise preflop to lose MP.
After the flop raise to find out where you are, if he reraises fold, if he calls see what happens on the turn, if he folds......you win.
  • I would say that you should reraise preflop because of this other player's really aggressive play, and to hopefully bet out MP who could have any range of hands. In this spot I would say reraise to $8-$10 total. I think that it's important to gather as much information from your opponents as you can preflop with a pair like 10-10. So the flop comes down 8 J 3 rainbow, now MP folds, so you are faced with $3 to call into a pot of $12.50. Based on your read on the SB he has eithier hit a set, or hit top pair with a weak kicker. Your pair of tens may still be good, he could be leading out with any number of hands in this spot, i would fire back at the $3 bet and reassess where i stand based on his action. I would say if he raises, let it go... if he flat calls proceed with caution (but in my mind i would think that i was ahead if the aggressive player flat calls, it may mean that he thinks his hand is weak) i think if he flat calls you could expect a check on the next street... What happened, what did SB have? I'm going to guess he had 9-9 or something.
  • What does his reraise preflop mean? If you don'tknow then calling seems ok but if he would do thia with a lot of strange hands you should push your advantage preflop and put in a big reraise. As you played it I think you need to raise the flop and go from there. If he pushes you can probably find a fold but otherwise you have a pretty good flop for your hand and if he is as erratic as you say you could easily be way ahead here. Given that it looks like we're going to have to make a stand at some point anyways I think I'd rather do it preflop to drop the MP player.
  • Hey there - thanks for all of the replys
I agree about the re-raise in hindsight - I probably needed to define my hand earlier than I did.
After the flop - I re-raised the SB, he paused for a while and called.
    Turn was 6 :h:
SB checked I bet $6 - he folded

Overall I was not unhappy with my play - but agree that I should have re-popped pre-flop
    Thanks

  • Did he show his hand?
  • Nope - my thoughts are that he had a weak ace and maybe caught a piece of the flop - A8 or A3
  • I like the way you played the hand. I am not in favour of re-raising pre-flop.

You are out of position with a vulnerable hand. I am in favour of taking off the flop. With this flop there is a good chance that you have the best hand and a raise will define your hand nicely, as it did.
