Vegas Tournaments in January 06?

Hey all,

It's been a looong time since my last post, but I'm back. Been busy saving up some money and working on my game. I have a question about Las Vegas. I'm going to be in Vegas from January 11th to 15th for a buddies stag. I'd really like to play in a tournament, or even a few satelites into a bigger tourney. Any idea how I can find out if there are any such events at any of the casinos while I'm there?

Cheers,
Acesfull

  • Also, pick up a copy of Card Player (also another publication, I think it's called "Poker Player") at one of the poker rooms when you get there... They list many of the daily tournaments.
  • Awesome, thanks for the help guys.
  • two thumbs up for the Sahara tourneys, 3 per day $62 total...
  • Just returned and played in 5 tournaments. Used www.allvegaspoker.com and the times were right however the prices were off at 2/5. Sign in early, ~1 hour ahead as 4/5 sold out. Here is a brief review of them.

    Saraha - 11 pm

Venue - not that great (tables worn)
    Bar Service - Good
    Rebuy - Yes
    Dealer Mistakes - Lots
Limit/No Limit - All Tourney was No Limit
Competition Level - Loose game and no obvious sharks though there were a couple of guys who had played in many LV tournaments. 1 guy said he played in 13 tournaments in 3 days!
    Locals - Yes

    Luxor - 12 noon

Venue - Nice - well run.
    Bar Service - Good
    Rebuy - No
Dealer Mistakes - None (that I saw)
Limit/No Limit - 1st hour was limit then rest was no limit
Competition Level - A few good players but mainly average.
Locals - Don't think so - all were tourists

    Stratosphere - 9 am

    Venue - Nice.
    Bar Service - Good
    Rebuy - Yes
Dealer Mistakes - A few. Poker Room manager was busy yapping with other employees and not paying attention to tournament.
Limit/No Limit - All No Limit
Competition Level - pretty high level but no obvious sharks
Locals - Yes - none were great players though.

    Mandalay Bay - 10 am

A repeat of the Luxor tournament.
Competition Level - some good players.

    Flamingo - 6 pm

Venue - Average - well run. Blinds increase rapidly - almost mimics on-line play.
    Bar Service - Good
    Rebuy - No
Dealer Mistakes - Only at the end when a dealer who admitted he didn't normally deal No Limit started.
Limit/No Limit - All No limit
Competition Level - high (see below).
Locals - Lots and a few who knew all the dealers and admitted to playing allot. One "local' got slow played by a tourist who had AA UTG and lost it. "Slow roll me with a pair of Aces! I'll get it back in a cash game" - quote when he was knocked out.

Overall a great experience. I have been to Vegas twice this year - last trip on the cheap ($235 can for flight(s) and room - Mon to Fri). I would recommend staying somewhere between NYNY and Bally's if you are playing Poker. All the best tournaments (in the $40 to $60 range) are located in this area and within walking distance (or $2 for the bus).  Paris, Alladin and Bally's all have cheaper daytime tourney's. I stayed at Circus Circus and rented a car - what I saved on a crappy room I spent on the car. The manor Rooms at Circus are crappy (but clean) and very noisy however the buffet was great.
If you are a high roller check out the 12 noon Wynn tournament. Great room (the Bellagio is also great) and nice ~$12,500 first prize for your $300 entry fee.
