Tues & Wednesday Brantford tourneys.
I saw that brantford is holding small buy in tourneys tuesday and wednesday mornings. They started last week wondering if anyone played in them last week?
I plan on playing in the tuesday one of this week for sure, maybe the wednesday tourney also.

Signup is the day before starting at 9am, right up until the tourney starts. They also give out bracelets the day before at 7am. The tourneys from the first week did not fill up. It seems as though they are limited to around 50 ppl, but this isnt an absolute #, and also depends how busy the poker room is.
Buy in is $40 +10, or +5 if you have a winners circle card. Im not sure how the payout structure is.
Top weekly players from each the tuesday and wednesday tourney go into some sort of final tourney, again Im not sure of the prizepool for this tourney.
I will try and find out as much as possible when I register tomorrow, there should be some sort of details upon registering I hope.
Blinds start at 25/25 i think.. or possible 25/50 and raise every 20 mins.
I will be there tomorrow and playing in the tourneys.
Got dealt KK under the gun raised it up. Call from a player in middle position who often makes weak calls, and isnt easily bluffable. Flop comes down A J 5, I bet out and without hesitation he calls. I figure him for an ace, and have him pegged as not folding. turn and river come 6 6. He turns over A/7 for the winner. After this i have lost over 1/3 of my starting chips, and a steady stream of 9/4 and J/2 blind me out.
Tourney format:
I found the format to be fairly aggressive early on, with the 25/25 starting blinds and only 1000 in chips with one rebuy of 500. If you lost a big pot like I did with the KK it seemed to be tough to come back from. I think after the rebuys and add ons are over the blind structure slows down a little bit, so maybe the middle of the tourney has more play.
Im not sure what anyone else thinks about this, or anyone thats played in a Brantford tourney before thinks about this but this is my opinion of there rebuy structure.
25/25
25/50
50/100
75/150
during these 4 blind levels you could do a single rebuy of 500 chips for $20. It seems like the only time worth doing this would be early on if you are down any chips, just to have the extra chips to play with. In the 75/150 level, even with a 2000 chip add on available at the end of the level this just does not seem worth it to me.
Even in the unlimited rebuy tourneys, rebuying twice to give yourself 1000 chips with 75/150 blinds does not some worth it.
Payouts:
I actually like the payout of the tourney alot. The rake was $5 but you are given a $5 buffet coupon, as well as a voucher that if you buy $5 in table chips they give you an extra $5. Everything else went back to the players, 85% of the payouts went to the top 10 for that day. The extra 15% went to the winners freeroll at the end of the 5 week series. The top 10 from every tuesday tourney get into the tuesday free, and same for the wednesday players. The nice part about this freeroll is the casino is matching the 15%.
Players:
There was a big mixture of players in this tourney, some were very weak and some were quite good. There were quite a few players that said they were playing in there first tourney, or first B&M tourney. Some of the early pots were often limped around with upwards of 8 players.
There is one hand that I had to share from early in the tourney, I was not involved in this hand but I thought it was player fairly poorly. Blinds are 25/50. A player in LP raises to 100, the button then reraises to either 300 or 400 i dont remember exactly. The SB goes all in for 850 and the BB then goes all in for 1250. The player in late position without thinking and with the reraiser behind him calls in a hurry he has 1550 in chips. The BB thinks for a minute and folds. SB turns over 99, BB 8/10 of spades and the LP player turns over Q/J of clubs With a J on the river 2 players are quickly gone.
Overall I was not to impressed with the tourneys, other then the casino matching the prizepool for the freeroll at the end. Any opinions on any of this would be great, esspecially the format and the rebuy period length.
1/ how long were the blind levels?
2Â how many players entered?
3/ how long start to finish?
Thx.. Jeff...
max is 50 players.
Not sure of the exact length but I think it was 5-6 hours tops. I didnt pay as much attention to the tourney once I got into my cash game.
You need to play more aggressively/gamble a bit more in these micro tournies. Try and find some weak players and push hard at them whenever they limp into the pots and you are in late position with any 2 cards etc etc
Actually this is pretty good for such low rake for the Casino, only $10 x 50. max for the 5 hours of table and dealer time. And 20 min levels is good for any low buyin tournet in Vegas. No complaints from me at this point.. May give it a try next week. Can you sign up by phone, don't really want to risk driving down there on that morning then not get in. What time did it start?
Sure, it beats any Vegas tournies I've played for less than $50
You cannot phone in to register, and the registration is actually the day before. Though there might be a small chance to get a seat the day of, I am not sure. It starts at 9am. Monday registration for the tuesday tourney is at 9am, you can get a wristband to guarantee a seat anytime after 7am. The tuesday registration for the wednesday tourney seemed to take place after the tourney was over, or right close to the end of it.
