just another bad beat story.....
playing in UB tec freeroll, top 50 get fed into the main tourny( no other prizes at all). down to 53 i have 16600...300 ante(i think), 2000-4000 blinds. 4 or 5 other people left with stacks about the same as mine, noone extremely shortstacked. utg i get pocket sixes, raise to 8000,and get one middle position caller. flop comes 8 6 2. i push and he calls. I roll over my set, and he turns over A8. Turn comes 8. River comes 8. I proceed to let out a string of profanities which almost wake up my wife. Then i feel relief that this didn't happen to me in a situation where the result was important.
The next day my wife is playing 5-10 limit at the local B&M and she gets pocket jacks in middle position. Flop comes J 8 2. Early position bets, it's raised, and then she re-raises, the button calls, as does everyone elses. The turn comes 2 and there is some more betting and raising which puts her all in. River comes 2 and the button flips over 2 3o. She throws her hand in the muck and leaves the table (much nicer then i would have been).
Now that i finished my rant, lets analyze my preflop play. Should i raise all-in, give the small raise or fold. Of course the table conditions are extremely tight but it's been my expirience that if someone is willing to call 8000, then he would probably call 16000 as well, which probably put me in a coinflip. If i make it 8000 and he puts me all in, then i call and hope for the best. By making the small raise, i hope to either take down the pot ( this size of raise was successful in taking down several pots) and if i don't like the flop ( yes i realize that there is an extremely good chance i won't like the flop) then i can get away from the hand, make it passed my blinds and pray that 3 other people get knocked out in the next 10 hands. Or there is always folding, perhaps allowing me a better chance from a later position or giving me another 2 rounds of play to pray for 3 other people to become as desperate as i felt.

How many chips did the player who called you have? I'm guessing his stack was much more comfortable.
With deep chips UTG, 6-6 will be marginal. With desperately short chips UTG then you have to move in with 6-6.
You are, sort of, in no-man's land. Although you are desperately short at face value, your stack is worth the very same as anyone else's stack if once you lose three more players. So, you are not as desperate as you might be if this was a usual MTT.
Also, blind stealing will, probably, be all but gone. There is no incentive for big stacks to lean on the blinds since they have, in essence, won the tournament. This makes it more likely that you will make it through your blinds.
For me, 6-6 is a little too weak UTG.
