Looking to price out a trip to vegas

Well I just turned 21 and my father and his twin brother are celebrating their 50th birthday in a month. Sooooo were looking at hitting up vegas. I was wondering if some of you vegas veterans could point me to where we can find the cheapest flights/hotels ect. Some info we would be looking at going either the weekend of jan 7th or 14th, were in London, Ontario but would be able to fly out of toronto/detroit/some other american city within a few hours. I don't think where we stay is that big a deal, but on the strip would be preferable and a spot with a decent poker room/rate would be nice aswell.

Any info/help is greatly apreciated guys!

Thanks,

-Sinc

  • Cheapest central strip hotel is usually Bally's, cheapest prices are directly from their website ballyslv.com, fliights compare expedia.ca with the carriers home sites (air canada, etc etc). Mid Jan is a slow time and things are generally cheap
  • Don't forget to check out rates from the Boardwalk and Stardust hotels. Thats where we stayed a month ago..
  • Check out the package deals on all the major travel sites (travelocity, cheaptickets, orbitz, etc), and check them frequently. When my wife and I went there last April we got to stay at the Venetian for less that some of the cheaper places on the strip. The deals seem to change all the time though, so check frequently. The prices in the afternoon may be different than they were in the morning for the same search. When you do find a good deal, grab it, it may not be there later... :D
  • Do a search on this forum, there is a lot of great info regarding Vegas. Check Wolffhounds posts, we just got back. The Imperial Palace and the Excalibur are very reasonable....The Imperial Palace comps you $3/hour playing poker and I think their comps are the best anywhere on the strip. The food is decent, the hooters are large, the drinks are free...what more could you ask for really?

Fly out of Detroit, you'll save a bundle, again check previous posts we went Northwest, cheap and usually behind schedule but no stop overs and anyone who can land a plane so smoothly in the wind we experienced coming home has to be good!

Wolffhound planned everything for us and it couldn't have worked out better.

The Stardust has a great poker room rate. Just book it through the poker room floor/manager ahead of time. The rooms are adequate, but not fancy, and it is a little bit north on the strip from the good stuff... but $45 for a saturday night is unbelievable. Most poker rooms require you play 4-6 hours to qualify... Stardust is only 3, and you can split it up so that you only have to play 1 hour each... They didn't even really check ours, so I don't think they care. You can taxi down to the good places on the strip.

Check expedia, etc.. but also check the airlines directly. I was able to get a much better price for the same flight Expedia was offering directly through the AWA website. Saved us about $50/person. If you're in London, flying out of Detroit may save you some money. I'm so close to Pearson, that it would have been more hassle than it's worth to go to Buffalo or Detroit.
  • Being in London I think you'd be foolish to not fly out of Detroit.

www.nwa.com  or try Spirit out of Detroit, they are super cheap as well.
The one thing I forgot to mention in my trip report was how cool/quick it was getting through the airport when flying within the US.  And the border was a joke.

If you take your time, you can easily book things yourself.  Try www.vegas.com to get a benchmark for prices and go from there on your own.  Everyone has their favorite place to stay, where you sleep doesn't really matter, all the casino's will happily take your money when you walk in there.

I've stayed at Imperial and Treasure Island.  Both served their purposes.  I liked the Excaliber when I waddled down there to see Compuease.
  • All these discount rooms are fine and dandy, but make sure you take some time and go play at some of the NICE poker rooms.
Bellagio, Mirage, Mandalay Bay, Wynn, MGM. Don't limit your play to the holes in the ground like IP, Circus, Stardust, etc.
  • Stardust

I take offence to that. Stardust's room is pretty well run. $3 max rake +$1 for the BBJ. The biggest game is a juicy 3/6 kill where everyone wants to take the kill button home and the Jackpot is at 40K for Quads beaten.
  • Oh, I'm not saying anything about the quality of the actual games at these places. Stardust and Imperial Palace have very soft games and somewhat enjoyable game. Binions remains my favourite place to play poker. The toughest game I've ever sat at was a 4/8 at Bellagio (although I moved over to another table and the game was very good)

I'm just suggesting that they should experience some of the Glitz of the strip at some point during their trip.
  • I'm in London and I always fly out of Detroit. Southwest airlines gave us $49 flightts to Orlando and $75 to vegas.

$75. to Vegas?? Recently??? Give us some examples... I may go monthly at that rate.. lol..
  • I might pay a bit more just to ensure they have fuel in the plane.

Or maybe we have to bring our own fuel??
  • All those are great sites... but you can never beat the WORM... http://www.travelworm.com

I got an email today.. I can stay most places there right now for under $50 a night :)

I hope that link helps you out.
