People who hate check raising.

I was playing a hand online, I was in the BB and get dealt AA. Cutoff raises, two callers, I reraise, everyone calls. Flop is A 10 X, I bet, cutoff raises, the others fold, I just call. Turn is a blank, I check-raise the cutoff, rivers a blank, I take down a decent pot with trips. Buddy got kinda mad I guess and said "CHECKIN THEN RAISIN WILL GET YOUR BUTT KICKED IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD." I told him we weren't in his neighbourhood, and he replied "IF YOU WERE ZERO YOU WOULDN'T MAKE IT." I just laughed at him and said ok, and that was the end of it. I'm currently trying to check-raise him as much as possible.

My point is that I thought it was pretty funny, and I'm thinking that you forum guys probably have some stories about it aswell, online or B&M. Love to hear those.

Oh and if anyone wants to know, the guy was tank48111 on Party, so if you ever sit down with him you know what to do :D

  • Go into a cardroom and try and get a list of house rules. One of them will always be "Check and raise is allowed."

I guess one day back in the 1920's nobody ever though of putting the two actions together.. so it was implied you could never use them..
  • I know its almost always allowed, but I'm sure theres people around like this guy online who just see something wrong with it.
  • haha, to bad for those guys... the all powerful check raise needs to be in every poker players arsenal
  • I am assuming list is low buy-in limit - where check-raise is a great tactic if you know the betting will go bet, call, call, call, call, call, call. No chance to raise if you are in EP. So the better way to go is check, check, check, check, bet (with J high), call, call, call, call, raise, call, call, call, call, call. Only way to add value to the pot!
  • I'm sure lots of 'friendly' home games have this rule. It is seen as a 'tricky' play. As I recall, my dad used to play with a group of guys and they had the no c/r rule in place.
  • My only comments on check-raising is to be VERY careful.

I have been burned so many times thinking I was slick and either letting cards come off for free or no anticipating bigger hands. I think I have ut down now.

  • LOL GTA, you go get him!

I love check raising, I don't do it all the time, but certain people you just know will bet when you check, so you get an extra bet out of them.
  • "You should be willing tg checkraise your mother"

    Words to live by........
  • I hate check/raising.....well only when it happens to me.......when I don't have the nuts........and have bottom pair..........otherwise it is all good.

    ;)
  • I would never play in a game that didn't allow it. Home or Casino. It is an integral part of the game. That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

I was at my parents cottage with my dad and a few of his buddys when I proposed a poker game. One of the old dudes said that he doesn't like that hold'em crap cuz they allow check raising. "That's not poker" he say.
I told him I will play whatever game they want with whatever rules they want, as I was licking my lips. I think the fact that I was also caressing my member at the same time scared them off though.

I gots to learn to slow play..
