Who's my daddy? Wader's my daddy.

The following is from my poker blog from yesterday's no-limit event at Casino Regina. When I wrote this I did not realize that the guy who makes the call here is Wader. You da man! Nice call. Full blog at www.CanadianPoker.com
Hand #10
What a call.

With 6-3o in the BB it is folded to the SB. He raises I call another 2,000. Flop of T-8-8. He checks. I move in another 6,000. He thinks a long time and eventually says, “I don’t know why I am thinking this” and he calls. He has K-9! Wow. Awesome call. I was really impressed. He was new to the table so I don’t think he had a real read on me. I was very impressed.

I chatted with Wader today about this call. I was telling him that I was going to give him the "Mike Caro knock your chips over move" but he counted out the call and restacked it and looked like he was going to fold and then the money went in before I could try it. Probably wouldn't have worked, but I will never know since he slipped in his call before I could gather my wits.

  • There is a very fine line between "Nice Call" and "Stupid Ass Call". I knew who you where when I sat down and I knew that you didnt know who I was (small favorite to me). I don't recall what the blinds where but obviously I was just trying to pick them up. To tell the truth I can't recall what all was going through my head I was just in one of those situations where I felt that I was in front. The problem is I only have K high and we have two cards to come I'm roughly a 3:1 favorite if im correct. I felt that if you had a small pp you may have pushed preflop, and if you had an AX you probabbly check the flop. If im wrong and you have a under pair I still can spike a K,9 or 10. And of course if you have a 10, I'm in big trouble and I'm risking half my stack to find out. Your aggresive style, your knowing that the flop probabbly missed me, and preflop play ended up in me calling. Anyways what I'm saying is this easily could have been "Stupid Ass Call" but I ended up following my gut, and it worked out.

I was talking with Devin and he said you where talking about that hand that night for quite some time............... that explains why my ears where on fire all that night.

    Wader
  • Devin exagerates. I patted you on the back for making an awesome call (without knowing it was you). And, I let it go. I don't hate my play of the hand. But, I got outplayed. Poo happens. It will stay with me as a memorable poker moment to be sure. Not too often a guy calls with a naked king.

And, debating "good call" v. "stupid ass call" is an interesting academic exercise. But, once the cards came face up it IS a great call and the debate stops.

If you recall, you said: "I call."

I said, "Nice call" and rolled my hand. Then you rolled your hand and I blurted out, "GREAT call." I was really impressed.
  • Devin exagerates

Devin does NOT exaggerate! When Wade told me that he knocked you out of the tournament, I told him that you were commending your opponent on making a very nice call. C'est tout.
  • Hey guys. I'm a friend of "All Aces" and just joined in. It's all new to me. Hi Devin!
