There was a post a while back that had a huge list of nicknames, I noticed 7-5 is Filipino Slick.  Anyone know why?  Me being filipino would like to know the story behind it.
Interesting question. I did some poking around and it is referenced in many spots but not explained *anywhere*. Anywhere I could find in 2 minutes or less...

What I have found: 3-2 is referred to as an 'Aggie slick' in Texas. The meaning here is that aggies are so stupid, they think 3-2 is powerful like AK.

So I wonder if this is some kind of knock against Filipinos? The stereotype is that Asians tend to play more speculative hands. Maybe a Filipino won a monster pot playing this hand so now it is famous? Or maybe they just like to call raises with this kind of hand?
  • Yeah, after doing some research of my own, I think it is either an indirect or direct derogatory comment on Filipinos. I looked up the origin of Cambodian Slick (7-4o) and it is an indirect dig at Cambodians and then I found Filipino Aces (A-4) that was direct slag on Filipinos. Oh well :s:

    Me neither.
That is the new name for AK forever.
    That's classic.
  • I'm glad you guys liked that one. I think it says in one of Cloutier's books that some old Texas gamblers used to call AKthe "Long Walk Home From Houston" because they'd bet their cars on that hand.
