sports betting

i know you're all poker degenerates, but how many of you get filthy with the sports betting? i've personally had a great week and it got me thinking about this place. would it be possible to have a sports betting section in the "other" part of this forum? would there be enough interest? opinions please.

  • I make about 10 bets a week. Various hockey and football bets. It might be a good idea to add awareness on better sites and odds/bonuses.
  • Hey Punky...I'm off to Vegas next week and someone has given me some money to make a couple sports bets....since you were just there would you know the best places to go to get the best line?

  • It really depends on the bets you are looking for. We were there for the opening of the NHL season and the odds to win the Cup varied a lot from Ottawa 8-1 to 14-1, Toronto 14-1 to 30-1. I bet various combinations mostly based on odds. I got the Habs at 40-1 and the Canucks for 20-1, Nashville at 35 and Detriot at 11 as well as the Sabresat 65. I am a Detriot fan but liked the odds on these others in "the new NHL" We looked at about 10 different sportsbooks. The Mirage group of casinos were by far the worst. The Imperial had some of the best along with Harrahs and the Alladain had some good one's also. For individual games you could find a few bucks but in general the IP was among the best for odds. We went to see the Castillio/Corrales fight and the odds there were +135 for Castillo (thanks Vegas for the gift) But at the Mirage +110 so it can be a good thing to shop around.

Our plan of attack was to know the schedules of the games and as we travelled the strip stop in the sports books as they are usually beside the poker pits and see what the odds were. Keep in mind you are 3 hours behind so the Eastern games start at 4:00. I had a problem one day with that betting games already in progress. Damn Corona's :D
  • Thanks Punky, we're staying at the Imperial so hopefully it all works out, I have to make two bets, one for the Sens to win the Cup, one for the Colts to win the Bowl.
  • I too enjoy to place a bet. Fortunately I only bet on the NFL - so my sports betting is curtailed to about 5 months of the year.

The worst is when you bet on sports and play cards at the same time. Ever play at Fallsview during a Leaf game? It's the worst. Sometimes I wonder why they have fancy flat-screens at every new poker room. If they want to distract players, why not put porn on those screens? Probably because the next time "greasy Joe" next to you in seat number 3 accidently pokes you under the table, you'll go running for the exits.
  • I place bets online, but simply as action bets. I only bet games I'm going to watch because it makes it that much more exciting. I turned $100 into $450 betting on NFL games and I couldn't even name a handful of guys on the teams I bet for (I cashed out before my luck ran out). NHL is always fun to bet on now, especially when it goes to a shoot out. As much as I hate the shoot outs, its damn exciting when you have a bill or two on the line! Speaking of shoot outs, how about Marek Malik's goal last night?!?! The guy hasnt scored a goal in 21 months and he goes between his legs as the 30th shooter in a shootout!! Kids got guts!
