Port Perry NL Tourny June 2

Port Perry is having a no limit tournament on june 2 is any one going?

The tournament is already full so if you dont already have a seat there is no chance to get in this one. There will be another one on Aug. 4
Seats are still available for that one.

I will post any interesting hands that I play.

  • I am thinking of going to the August one. I did go in the tournament last August, first experience with rebuys (yuck). The December one looks like you get more value for your entrance fee as the skim a little out all the pots through the year and add it to that one. The chances of me entering that are much better.
  • What is the format of these? Is it similar to the Brantford Casino's?

I might go up in August to visit one of my friends, and we'll go play in it maybe.
  • This is the format.

    Buyin $100+20
    Rebuy $50 for 1000 chips
Add on $100 for 2000 chips

    Unlimited rebuys for 1 hr
    Start with 2000 chips
Can rebuy if you have 2000 or less chips( you can rebuy during the first hand if you wish so you can start with 3000 chips if you wish)

If you lose all your chips you can rebuy 3000 for $150 or just buy 1000 for $50.

    blinds start at 25/50
    20 min levels
    Blinds follow this structure
    25/50
    50/100
    100/200
    15 min Break
100/200 Yes again I did not make a mistake lol
    200/400
    300/600
    Break
    300/600
    400/800
    500/1000
    break
    500/1000
    1000/2000
    2000/4000
    break
    2000/4000
    3000/6000
    4000/8000
    break

    usually ends by now

I dont know why they repeat the same level of blinds after every break but I like it since it slows down the pace a little bit.

Do you have to register in person? Or can you do it by phone? I might be be interested in driving all the way over there to play in the tourney but driving there just to register seems like overkill.

  • 100/200 Yes again I did not make a mistake lol

This usually indicates that the ante period has started, ie: the first 100/200 level is without an ante, and then the second one has let's say a $25 ante.

  • No there is no ante in this tourny.
If you notice after each break the level repeats itself
so you play with 100/200 blinds for 40 min 300/600 for 40 min
500/1000 for 40 min etc etc
I dont know why they do this but I am not complaining.
  • Bizarre... sorry my bad.
  • You must register in person with photo ID
  • And how does the payout go?
  • I am not sure of the % of the payouts but there are 10 prizes
    It is usually $9 000 - $11 000 for 1st place depending on rebuys
    2nd $5 000
    3rd $2 500
    4th $1 200
    5th $900
    6th-10th $450

The casino holds back 10% of the prize pool to be added to the December tournament of champions. The winner of each tournament also wins a free seat into the tournament of champions.
  • Nice, I'll consider it.

What is the cap on the number of entrants, and does it fill up quickly?

    8 tables of 11 = 88 players

  • The blinds escalate every 20 mins.

Next to impossible to recover from a bad beat after the rebuy period ends.

After having KK cracked 2x, I placed about 25th or so after my shortstacked K7 in the BB pushed against an exactly equal shortstacked 88 on a 975 board.

    Boo.

    My favourite hand:

blinds 300-600. BJ, a regular there and a solid player, raises all in for T1200, I call in SB with black kings, BB had already mucked for some reason he thought he was UTG. He flips KJo and flop comes 974. He shouts "8!". Turn: 8. He shouts "Ten!". River T. The table erupts.

Now that sounds like a rigged RNG to me. :D
  • Man, isn't this one of those times where he is a 989 to 1 underdog?

If that happened to me, I think I would have erupted

Nothing you can do about it though...thats poker 8)

Lol... NO. KK vs KJ on a 974 flop? The KJ is a big dog (he has to hit twice) but it is nothing like having to go runner runner for two EXACT cards.

He can win with running jacks (probability = 6/1980)
He can win with running 8-10 (probability = 32/1980)
He can win with running Q-10 (probability = 32/1980)

Total = 70/1980, meaning he is a bit worse than a 27-1 dog. A big underdog? Yes. 989-1? No.

  • Haha...I obviously need a better calculator :!:
  • FWIW, GBH ran a great tournament

I was talkin to the supervisor (not Kim :D ) and he was saying how the casino by law cannot comp poker players so they charge everyone a $20 "admin" fee and serve them well over $20 worth of food, seafood, etc. etc. It was really well run, although some floor decisions were questionable, and 20 min levels make the tourney a virtual crapshoot.

I suggested they roll dice for the money, but was denied.

Interesting law. Casinorama comps poker players. Brantford used to comp players water, back when comp cards were needed for water.

I suspect that the supervisor is wrong.

  • 989-1 odds:

This is specifically when two perfect running cards are needed.

For example, if I have AsAd and my opponent has Kc Qc.

The flop comes Ah Ac 2d. My opponent is a 989-1 dog.

He must catch the Jc and Tc in the next two cards.
  • The next one is on Aug. 4th
I registered on june 2 and was #40 out of 88 so if you want to play you better register soon.

    I registered today - June 16th - and I was #81!

This is going to be quite the showdown.

I was reading the Rules and Regulations and noticed a couple of mistakes and typos. However, there is some terminology that I am unfamiliar with:

    1) "During the second and third player break, the chips will be coloured up. The players will race for the slush"

    - I am guessing that coloured up means we will be using denomination chips? but the slush?

    can someone help me?
  • I've never heard the word "slush" used for it before, but I think it's what I would call the odd chips.

For example, if you were colouring up red chips to green, if you had seven red chips, you'd get one green chip, and the extra two red chips would go into the so-called slush.

    Mmmm... slushie... :P
